I keep drooling!

I have like heaps more saliva in my mouth because of my expander. I've had it in for 6 weeks and turned it everyday. My top jaw is now even with my bottom so it's actually moved the 10mm.
But I hate the drooling, it's so not cool when kissing my gf

I have my ortho appointment on tues and will proabably get braced very soon! So nervous. I'm getting the ceramic braces and the clear bands or whatever so hopefully it won't too bad.

It is SOOOOO true about drool. I've had my expander since November and I still have to remember to swallow before I open my mouth. I"m used to it but it's a pain.
My husband and I have pretty much stopped open mouth kissing for the time being. Your gf should understand that. and remember it's only temporary.

I have to wear my expander until march and then I get a TPA which is much smaller and shouldn't be such a drool machine.
I think braces will be easier to deal with because they are not as large and evident as the expanderl I'll find out on Monday.

Is it common for just brackets and wires to cause drooling? I'm not much of a drooler now, but once in a while (this is gross) I wake up during the night and have to turn the pillow over. Happens almost exclusively when my nose is clogged with a cold or something and I'm breathing through my mouth. Just curious if the braces might may make my occasional drooling problem worse...

This is a funny one.

I drooled like a St. Bernard for the first two days after I got my RPE, and was dreading having to put my life on hold to drool non-stop when I got the braces on last week. But there was no perceptible increase in drooling. I'm a bit perplexed as to why some people continue to drool with the RPE or the braces and others don't. You'd think the mouth would adjust to the metal being a new occupant, not food to digest.

I drool a little bit at night into my pillow, but always have, probably because I drink so much water during the day. That's probably why so much liquid comes out of my mouth with my stepped up cleaning program. Tonight, I covered my mouth with vaseline to waterproof it before I began the routine--so tired of chapped skin.

I'm in the same boat! I never used to drool at night and now I'm waking up in the middle of the night like this. When I first got my braces I used to wake up with a really dry mouth and lately it's been the opposite. I guess there's no middle ground for me.

haha, so funny, was just having this coversation over dinner about my new drooling problem at night because of my expander. Not that great of a dinner convo, but whatever I thought it was worth mentioning.

Typically (for most people) it can take up to about 2 weeks for the drooling to subside. Eventually your mouth figures out that this metal intrusion is not food and stops over producing saliva. The first week I had mine I was drooling like a faucet. I had to put a towel on my pillow at night otherwise I would (so gross) wake up in a puddle of drool. Not one of the big highlights in my life but it did pass so I got through it. I have never heard of someone still excessively drooling after 6 weeks. I think I would have to talk with my ortho about that as that is really unusual.

hahah, I'm a year and a month into treatment and still have problems with drooling at times

on one occasion, I was holding myself over my girlfriend and I drooled right onto her lol, it was bad luckily she has a good sense of humor

Gosh yes! I had to flip my pillow quite a lot the entire time I was braced. It was amazing because the first night without braces, the pillow was dry ALL NIGHT! I haven't drooled since having them removed.

The retainers make me a little slurpy, but not drooley.
