Will wear those retainers shortly. I have been told they are very bulky and impede your speech. Do you have a mouthful right at the beginning ?
Girls/Ladies/Boys how does it feel ?

Hi Frenchsmile,
I had a bonded metal retainer fitted to my upper incisors just before christmas. The braces are due to come off on the 5th of february, but my ortho likes to fit the upper retainer early to ensure that there are no problems before debanding.
For the first 24 hours it felt incredibly bulky, but after that I have barely noticed it. Brushing takes a little adjustment, but so far I have had no problems.
When are you due for debanding?

I just got my hawley upper on Thursday. It's not bad at all, REALLY!
The lab that my ortho uses makes it as small as possible. The plastic doesn't got all the way up and back into the soft pallet! It doesn't gag me and I can say my s's almost perfectly.
I haven't had any trouble sleeping with it and it really only bothers me when I'm drinking something and can't feel the cool liquid on the roof of my mouth.
I will get a bonded retainer on the bottom in February. I get an essex type retainer on Monday for the lowers as one of my lower incisors decided to twist just before my braces were removed. That retainer will correct that tooth.
Hope your retainer is as comfortable as mine!
