They shaved my leg!
Howdy,
It took me 2 days to realise that they shaved the top of my right leg during surgery!
I can't work out why. I had a drip going into the top of my hand, and also another going into my lower arm and they didn't shave either of those 2 places (despite having hairy arms).
I looked close up at my leg and couldn't find any evidence of a puncture from a syringe or anything like that. It was (thank goodness) on the outside of my upper leg.
I'm not particularly concerned by it, I guess I'm just suprised that they were doing things with the top of my leg in an operation on my jaw...

How bizarre! I'm afraid I would have to ask why, I'm far too nosy to let something like that pass me by without explanation.

Maybe it was for a grounding line if they used cautery during surgery? I had a small soft-tissue growth taken out of my mouth in high school. They used an electro-cautery scalpel, which cuts, but also uses electricity to burn the tissue and stop the bleeding. They put this funny little metal ring around my calf for grounding. But maybe they had some sort of sticky grounding thing that they stuck there.
My other thought is that it was some sort of sticky electrode for monitoring. I don't know why it would have been in that location, though. But usually during surgery, they hook you up to an EKG to monitor your heartbeat. So it might have been monitoring something (pulse, muscle tone...?).

That is really weird. It does sound like there may have been some initial confusion as to the nature of your surgery. Perhaps you should thank your lucky stars that your genitals are intact!
I hope that you are making a good recovery now and that your discomfort has eased a lot.
