Spacers Question
I think there's something wrong with me... I had two spacers put in last week (to prepare for my final set of molar bands next month) and I've yet to experience a lot of pain... it's a little sore where the spacers are when I brush and floss... has anyone else experienced this? Because based on what I've read I thought spacers are supposed to bring pain 24/7. I'm not complaining and maybe they do hurt more than I feel because the Rotadent brush I use is ultra gentle and I have build ups on my bottom molars to keep me from biting down all the way... but I just find this odd and don't want to delay my treatment if I've moved them while eating/brushing and they're not really working. Anyone else in the same boat?

I recently had spacers myself and felt little pain. Just like you, I only felt pain when I brushed, but I never flossed where the spacer was because my orthodontist told me not to. When my ortho took the spacers out she thought everything went fine and I continued my treatment without any delays. I don’t think there is anything wrong with you, maybe you just lucked out and haven’t experienced much pain.

My top 4 spacers were torture for the 3.5-4 wks they were in (that's how tight I was in there!). I couldn't even chew soft food with those
. I was pleasantly surprised when I got my bottom 4 spacers on 11-9-06 that the only pain I experienced was a little pressure on the right side that night and haven't had not a single problem since!
It's different for everyone would be my guess...even in my case different as night and day with them on the tops and bottoms.

My spacers have been a complete pain the whole week and a half I have had them in. I have been on a mashed potato diet for the most part. I think the reason I had a lot of pain is because my teeth are for the most part in line with each other so there wasn't anywhere for my teeth to go except for against each other.

I think this post (and subsequent replies) are just another example of how everyone's "journey" or treatment is different. We can get ideas from one another on what we can maybe expect - but it's not the RULE or even the NORM. Now we got people worried they are doing something wrong and that treatment isn't working if there is no pain involved? WTH? lol!
You're fine, hon. If the spacers are still in place - then you'll be fine. No need to worry and split hairs.
I have read a lot about adjustments, too...and if the typical response is RULE - then kk who has had no pain with her adjustments shouldn't be having the awesome results she has had while in braces...
Pain is not always an indication of things working or progressing.

Wouldn't you just know it--last night I knocked one of them out when I was brushing. You're fine, hon. If the spacers are still in place - then you'll be fine. No need to worry and split hairs.

Good to know I'm not alone... and I good luck to those of you still dealing with less than pain-free spacers.

With my top spacers I was in agony so a few weeks ago when I had spacers put in my bottom teeth I was not looking forward to it but the bottom caused me no pain except, as you mentioned, a little sensativity in the area. I don't think you have anything to worry about, just consider yourself lucky.
