Please help! I'm so frustrated with my rubberbands!

#1 Post by Tasha0313 »

Okay, so I've been wearing my rubberbands for about the last 8-10 months of my treatment. I absolutely hate them, but I know that in order to get my braces off I have to wear them.

Anyways, check out my pics. I have a very small open bite on the right side of my mouth which my ortho is trying to close with these wonderful rubberbands. However, the problem is when I wear the box in the front, my gums bleed really bad, it's extremely sore, and I can barely stand it.

Any advice? Should I ask him at my next adjustment if there's any way he can change the configuration of my rubberbands or just stick it out?

We have the exact same configarition! I just got that on 10/23 and I dont have any problems (no pain or disconfort after 48 hours). I'm sorry, I was unable to help.

Good luck with it.
I would definitely take the above advice. You want to make sure something is not wrong with your gums because it should not be bleeding.

Absolutely talk to your ortho about your pain and bleeding problems.

I have a similar config (mine's a triangle) in front that I wear at night only. It's purpose is similar to yours. It's an uncomfortable set up so I empathise with your situation.

I agree with everyone, tell your orthodontist. I had to wear my rubberbands in a certain configuration and everytime I wore them I would migraines. I told my orthodontist and they were able to reconfigure them to get my teeth moving without me getting migraines :D

Just an update

#7 Post by Tasha0313 »

Well I wanted to update everyone. My last post I was having so much trouble with my rubberbands, they were driving me crazy. I had an appointment yesterday and got the BEST news ever!! I only have to wear the rubberbands in the front at night. IF I wear my rubberbands like I'm supposed to, I will get my braces off on December 14th at 8:00AM. I was so excited yesterday when I left the office I couldn't contain myself. I can't wait for the 14th. I'm a little apprehensive, only because I don't know exactly how they remove the braces, but I hope it will be okay!

Thanks guys for all of your advice, I really do appreciate it!

Congrats on that great news and nice that you have to wear that challenging configuration only at night now ;)

Don't worry with the remove process, of what friends told me its done in a minute and you don't feel anything. As far as I know its done with a plier and they press a bracket with it a bit together, which looses grip because of no plane surface anymore and then pops of the teeth.
