Morning All! I thought I'd post an observation I made soon after noticing it!

Imagine my surprise when, in the midst of my morning brush, I noticed that one of my bottom teeth that's always been straight has started to turn just a bit:

Image

For a closer look---it's the one that has the most prominent space beside it on the bottom (see the faint red circle I made in Paint...LOL):

Image

I got a little excited because I know that some movement is going on somewhere...and before I know it, all of my teeth will be straight and all of my spaces will be closed!

Enjoy your weekend everyone, and stay cool! :smoken:

That's fantastic, MsTee!

Seeing movement so soon just makes it all worth it. Can't wait to see many more changes for you.

One month update:

I have seen what I believe to be a LOT of progress in a month! The crooked front tooth I once had is now straight! Now my braces are working to close the gap, which is already smaller than it was before! The space I have on the bottom left is what's gonna take the longest to close, along with correcting my bite, but even that seems to not be as bad as it once was!

I've gotten used to talking, eating, and smiling with my braces, and have my brushing/rinsing/flossing/dieting routine down pat. Man, I miss my cheesecake!

After the first week, I felt no pain. I felt pressure again starting the second week, but only when I brushed my teeth. This is how I've learned what teeth are making movement progress. Right now my front right teeth and a couple of others beside it are where I feel the most pressure. I still don't have my arch wire appointment for over a month. Here are some pics:

Looking good MsTee!

I bet this is very encouraging... talk about early gratification for your decision to get braces, many people don't see changes right off!

Those are great pics, keep us updated!

Quick Update

Things are still going well. It actually seems as if my teeth have slowed down on movement. I have my Arch Wire appointment next Tuesday, so I will wait til then to post pics. I plan to get hot pink ligs! 8)

Hot pink ligs are great, take it from me! I'm definitely getting them again at some point.

Don't worry yourself too much over slowing down in movement...it happens...if movement was always so quick there wouldn't be any such thing as having braces for over a year!

Yes, make sure you post those pics of the ligs! I bet it will look great, MsTee.

My 1st adjustment: UPDATE

#37 Post by MsTee »

So...I got my pink ligs!

I also had my wires changed to a thicker set...a powerchain put on the bottom row of my teeth (from one molar band across to the other) to close the spaces that are taking longer than those that were up top...and rubber bands to pull my bottom jaw in!

Imagine my surprise when the asst. put the powerchain AND rubber bands in front of me. I had no idea I'd be ready for both so soon! I have to wear my rubber bands at all times (except eating and brushing)...even while I'm sleeping! I didn't get to take any pain killers until after my appointment...and the pressure kicked in not too soon after. They warned me that I'd feel pain...no joke! Thank goodness I don't have lots of teaching to do the next couple of days! Here are the pics:

The new pink ligs and introducing...the powerchain!

On another note, I've experienced drying and flaking on the outer edge of my bottom lip for the past couple of weeks. I asked the ortho today, and was told that my braces could've contributed to it. I'm thinking maybe it was the change in seasons, stress, and/or the newest lip balm I've been using. I bought a new one (My Favorite Lip Balm by C.O. Bigelow---found in Bath & Body Works), and that seems to help...at least somewhat, as the flaking resurfaced this week. So I am still trying to pinpoint the cause b/c now the corners of my mouth have cracked...I can't have all of this going on while I have so much brushing & flossing to do each day!

Anyway, my next appointment isn't until December...so we'll see how much progress I make until then!

Quick Update

#38 Post by MsTee »

Things are going well with the new wires, powerchain, and rubber bands. There hasn't been much pressure this time around. I haven't seen much fast movement as I did with the first set of wires, but it does look like my bottom teeth are moving inward to sit behind my top teeth, as they should! I haven't had any pain with the rubber bands, though I did wake up to a sore upper left molar the other morning b/c of the force from the rubber band. It went away before the day was over.

Image

As for what was going on with my mouth...went to my primary care physician and found out I had cheliosis, with is basically when bacteria forms and spreads from a cut in the corner of your mouth that is exposed to too much moisture. She gave me some ointment, and it went away in a matter of days...thank goodness! Apparently as I adjusted to the braces, they caused my mouth to be "juicier" than normal...thus this predicament.

My next appointment is in about a month. See ya on the next update!

PS---Yesterday, I stumbled upon some pics that are about 4 years old...and I couldn't believe the difference in my smile, particularly with the crooked front tooth and the space I had in between them! That was probably the first flaw that corrected itself once the braces were put on. I am so pleased with my progress and can't wait to see how things turn out come 8/07!

Lovely progress, Ms Tee! I'm glad you found out what the problem was with your lip, good thing it wasn't something more serious.

Oh yes, and the pink ligs look great!

I woke up one morning last week with a funny feeling between my teeth. So I clicked them together...and realized that the tops of my canines met each other! Here are pics I took after I found this out:

Image

Image

Image
This pic I took laying down...that structure you see "over" my head is the bottom of my dining room table...please disregard!

That stubborn gap on the bottom left is slowly but surely closing up...and my underbite is correcting itself! When I take profile pics, my chin doesn't seem to jut out as much anymore, nor does my bottom lip poke out like it used to.

I was really concerned that my rubber bands and powerchain weren't doing much, because I haven't felt much pressure since they were first put on. My next adjustment is in about 2 weeks, so we'll see what the ortho has to say!

My late progress update

#42 Post by MsTee »

Here are a couple of pics after my arch wire appt. on Tue. 12/12:

Image
The stubborn space at the bottom is slowly being worked on. I've noticed that the bottom row has rounded out into that perfect U. I am no longer able to stick my tongue between my teeth when I smile, and the bite is steadily correcting itself! :)

Image
Do orthos usually file certain teeth as needed after the braces have been removed? I'm thinking my canines could use a new shape.

The ligs that I have are an iridescent blue. I won't get them again...the color fades too quickly after eating foods with sauces and such. I've got my eye on some glittery gold ones the next time around.

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable holiday season. Happy New Year, and I'll see ya soon! 8)

Kiwi,

I feel that certain aspects of my treatment are moving slowly as well!

As for the Class III bite...comparing recent pics to pics of before and just after being braced, I definitely see a difference. Instead of an obvious underbite, I'd say that the top & bottom teeth meet now. I guess between the heavier wires and the rubber bands, my bottom teeth will eventually be pushed BEHIND the top ones.
