Mouthwash is fine. Some people have problems with the alcohol in them, but only because it tends to dry out their mouths. So if this is the case for you, switch to an alcohol free rinse and you should be fine. Why would mouthwash rust your braces but your saliva would not? I don't quite follow your dad's logic. And for most people, that glue is stronger than steel. An occasional bracket may pop off, but for the most part, they stay put until the ortho takes his little pliers contraption and pops them off at the end of treatment...which for some people extends 2, 3, 4 or more years!!

I agree, check with your ortho to set your mind (and your dad's) at ease.

I second what Kiwi Kare has posted.

My ortho had also recommended Oral-B fluorinse. I think it comes in a daily and weekly use. I got the daily use, and it worked great. No cavities throughout treatment, and no blue globs that so many others have mentioned with various other brands.

Vincent...can I ask you a favor? Please use complete spelling in your posts. I (and I think many here, especially those whose first language is not English) would find it easier to read your posts if you don't use text messaging shorthand.

Thanks!

Practise your questions before your appointment
Or have them written down, so you don't forget what you wanted to ask. And, having that piece of paper in hand, you can say to your ortho, "After you are done with the adjustment, I have a couple of questions before I leave. It won't take long." That's helped me in the past.
