BraceUrself's story & Journal

#1 Post by BraceUrself »

Hello Friends~~
I am not really a newbie but I waited to tell my whole story until I got closer to getting something actually going. 1 week from today, I will have my spacers put in so I guess it is REALLY starting now right??
I'm 33-happily married with 2 gorgeous kids who both have good teeth & so does my husband. I have hated my teeth as long as I can remember back in my life & I have always laughed with joy but in fear of being judged due to the teeth issue.
My husband is extremely supportive & loving & encouraging so he went along with it when I tried in the past to get braces on. It was just not do-able at the time so we just didn't do it. Time passed & the issue of my teeth bothering me kept coming up. Many MANY many times, different dentists have told me I have crowding & should look into orthos but I never did.
I guess its true that it has to come from within you & you REALLY have to want it because that happened to me. I just got to a point where I wasn't going to be scared, I wasn't going to let $ be an issue or ignore dentists anymore! I called a ortho because I wanted to & so here we go...........
I went in for my initial consultation & they mentioned 3 extractions & 2 full yrs of braces along with retainers afterwards. OK so because it was summer-the office was pretty booked until Aug & I had my impressions & x-rays done then, a few weeks later, an additional set of x-rays & photos(my "before" photos, I guess). At that time, they made my appt for the spacers & the braces on day!(that called the banding day right?? )
I am so excited, I just can't believe it-I am FINALLY going to have nice teeth-even if they are "SUPER EXTRA PERFECT" they are going to be wonderful to me. I dont know all of the issues with my teeth but I know I have a overbite, a crossbite and a deep bite-I heard all that as the dr was talking.
I thought I would have extractions before the banding but I guess not cause I have no extarctions date yet(Thank God, I'm hoping I won't have to & that my teeth will just cooperate & move to a good place) I am ready to do whatever it takes, I KNOW it will hurt & I am preparing already. I bought x-tra strength tylenol & I have even bought wax too already.I already know too, that I will be using a roto-dent.
I thank all of you on this site cause it has been a awesome place to come for help, answers & support! I know I will continue to come here on a regular basis & ask alot of questions & hopefully, as I learn more, I can answer questions as well. I have a digi camera so I will work on getting some photos up so you can see me before braces. Just be patient cause I've never done it before k?
I look forward to talking with many of you alot more in the future & I love hearing your updates/stories as well-Have a great day & I'm happy to say, I will soon be a BRACE-FACE!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :-#) :pinkbraces:

well, I got my 8 spacers in today at 1 pm, not too bad going on or too bad after honestly. About an hr & a half later, I could really feel them being uncomfortable & awkward but still no pain. I am 6 hrs in right now & still no pain at all, which is nice, I hope I continue to be this lucky!
I was supposed to get the braces on 10/3 but now it is moved back to 10/17 because after the Dr takes my spacers out, he will take new impressions for an appliance that will go straight across the roof of my mouth & it will hold onto the 2 bands that will go around my back upper teeth. That appliance will be delivered to his office on the 17th, when my appt is & at that time, I will be bracketed on top & he said I will have the lowers applied about 2 wks to 1 month later. It is really happening for me & I am excited!
So, thats my update for now................... :D

Glad your spacers aren't giving you a lot of misery. I hated mine. I had such severe crowding that they really hurt to be put in and I felt like I was walking around with huge hunks of pork between my teeth for a month!

Good luck with your treatment!

well, the pain DID kick in last night during the night-it woke me up a couple of times & I tried to be tough & not take anything for it. I woke up, had some warm coffee & that HELPS alot! :D I took some Tylenol to work with me I did take it but haven't taken any since then. Eating is slow, comical & painful but I am surviving.
Thanks for all the encouragement-I appreciate it VERY much!

Hi Braceurself- I've had spacers that hurt, some that didn't hurt at all, elastic, metal.... I'm in them AGAIN and these hurt so looks like soup and a liquid type of diet for a bit. Just remember, this too shall pass. You'll get through the discomfort. Before you know it you will be getting those spacers out and braces on. Think about that great smile that you will get at the end. As soon as I got mine on, I started counting down and I may even be out of these next year at this time.

an update.........

I posted this in another part of the boards but wanted to share here too to update my story!

I went to an appt today to get my bands put on & to have an impression done for an appliance that I will get in 2 weeks that goes across the top of my mouth(not an expander though)

The Dr did everything he was supposed to & then says do you have time for us to top brace you today? I was like  YEAH! SO they did what they do best & I walked out with the top braced, my goodie bag & my rotodent! I am on my way! YAY-I am thrilled!

I can honestly say that 6 hrs later, I DO have a raw spot that requires wax already & Tylenol is DEFINITELY my friend but I can take it, this is what I wanted & I now have it! YIPPEE! I tried to post a picture but photobucket is acting up on me so I can't right now. I will when I can though. Thanks for your advice & kind words!

Ooh, looking really good!

Are those white ligs? They are very cool. I've been too scared to try them because of staining, but they look really nice!
