I made it!
The surgery went well. I arrived, signed a couple forms, and was then led to the room where the surgery would take place. It really just looked like a regular old exam room with a chair some normal doctor's office stuff. The nurse put a blood pressure cuff on my left arm and one of those oxygen meter things on my index finger.
After a couple minutes my surgeon came in. I asked a couple questions, and then we were ready to go. The surgeon raised the chair a little and tipped it back some. Then she very skillfully inserted the IV (into my arm, not the chair) - "...and I'll insert the IV in three, two, one..." I remember her saying something about how it would sneak up on me, and I wasn't sure what she meant, but that's the last thing I remember, so I guess she meant that the sedative would sneak up on me.
I guess I was asleep/unaware for most of the procedure. I woke up near the end to hear Doc working with the drill. (Thank goodness I didn't feel it or care.) I remember either the nurse or Doc saying I was doing well and that we were almost finished. I sort of opened my eyes and then closed them again, thinking it would be bad for the doctor if I had my eyes open. (I have no idea what that means. *lol*) Then I remember the nurse pulling out the gauze and helping me to the recovery room.
I'm not sure how long I was there, but it seemed like just a few minutes before they called my husband in. They gave me an ice pack and then we just waited until the nurse came back with home care instructions. I felt awkward not talking, and I didn't want my husband to think I was miserable, so I started a game of rock-paper-scissors with him to pass the time.
So the nurse finally came in with some instructions and then sent us on our way.
I spent the night in the recliner last night and didn't sleep too well, so I think I'll sleep in bed tonight instead.
I think so far my spirits are good and I've managed with taking half a Lortab (pain killer) only once yesterday afternoon. The 800mg ibuprofen seems to be enough, and I probably could even do without that, but I'm taking it just in case.

I had a little swelling yesterday, but it wasn't too bad. I think I have a little more today, so I need to be more diligent with the ice packs. I also have some bruising on my lower cheeks, but overall I think I look pretty good. My swollen face actually makes me look a little younger.
My surgeon called yesterday evening to see how I was doing, which I thought was super-sweet.
Tomorrow we start "cranking" the expander. (And by "we" I mean my husband.) Two turns a day for two weeks. So two weeks from now, I'll have a big mouth! Yay!
