Hey everyone!

Since my good news on Wednesday about being almost done, I've been so excited, I'm really looking forward to debanding!

Unfortunately, I've noticed my bite opening up again on my right side - which was where the box configuration elastic previously was. :S
I'm unsure of whether to just leave it alone or possibly wear that elastic again until it closes up - I wore it just overnight two days ago and everything closed right up, but a few hours after removal it feels different. Maybe that's the normal bite changing that occurs over the day?
If it doesn't settle in a few days, I'll give my ortho a call and see what she thinks.

Maybe I'm just imagining it? But I really don't want to mess things up now that I'm so close to the finish.

Also, ever since I was told that I would be discussing retainer options at my next adjustment, I've been wondering what that means. Will I choose my retainer type and that's it? Or will I also have impressions done then? I'm really not sure what this means or if it can tell me how long I have until debanding. :?

Karen, I'm definitely going to give my ortho a call about it 'cause I don't want to mess things up at this stage. Hopefully everything will be alright.

Stargirl!

Congratulations on the news from your ortho! That is wonderful and your smile is looking great! :D I would call your ortho about your bite opening up on the one side!

I just got the "Elastic of Doom" on Thursday! I don't like it at all, too obvious, annoying, and painful! I see the movement in your case which gives me encouragement to continue wearing it! Its supposed to close my bite on the right and "squeeze my teeth together" as my ortho says. I feel like I can hardly open my mouth with it in and its very awkward to laugh with it! I can already fee the changes in my bite, kind of awkward, finally being able to bite down there after so long!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hello again everyone!

I am oh so very happy today, because I got my debanding date! :D

October 31st I will have impressions for retainers made and then on November 7th, the braces will be off! I chose an upper Essix retainer and a lower bonded retainer.

My midline is coming along nicely, just a teeny bit more to go, so I'm still in Class II elastics on the left side.

Did I mention how excited I am?

Thanks everyone! :D

I am pretty happy with how my teeth look, except I'd kind of like them to be shaped/shaved so they are a bit more smooth on the bottom teeth and a couple on the top. I hope that my ortho will do this next time.

I had a choice between an upper Hawley or Essix.. and I opted for the Essix because it's clear, and I'm tired of wires, and although the Essix is a bit more of a hassle (you have to take it out before you eat and brush before you put it back in), I feel that I can be diligent enough. Plus, I get two Essix retainers out of the deal instead of just one Hawley!

My only concern is the bite opening issue that I've heard happens with Essix retainers. I hope this won't happen because I'll only have the top retainer, so maybe I won't be affected as much?

Only 1 month, 2 weeks and 4 days left!

I'm thinking of switching my top hawley to essix and am worried about the open bite thing too...but I will only have a retainer on top like you...so let me know if you find out any info about this issue!

Hey!

I just wanted to do a quick update - In about 3 weeks I'll have my impressions for retainers, then it's only a week more after that and I will be naked!!

I've been trying to read up on Essix retainers, but I can't find much info on them!

Here are some pics from today:

Image

Yay, my midline has been corrected. but I don't like that weird space in the middle there.

Image

Left side... still wearing a class II elastic here. I'm not sure about those spaces... are they normal?

Image

Again, spaces between upper/lower teeth.

Other than that, my bite feels really good and I'm ready to be metal free!

26 days left? :D

Congrats! :-)o

Maybe the few little things will be corrected between now and the 7th? Either way, you will have an AMAZING naked smile!

Congrats on your debanding date!

Totally talk to your ortho about the spaces and see if anything can be done before you get debanded..might as well aim for perfection after all! :D

Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone! :D

I'm getting more and more excited as debanding-day comes closer!

Haha... I think I'm being too critical of my teeth... I doubt anyone will notice the things that I do! That's what having braces does to you...
