Hello! My first post ever!

#1 Post by misstat »

Hey everyone! I got my braces about a month ago and found this page and the message boards and decided to stay. So far I've only got them on the top ( the bottom teeth have no room yet for braces down there). I got brackets first, then separators, and about 3 days ago I got molar bands in. Lemme tell you, I'm suffering!!! The wires stick out a bit and are scratching my cheeks, the insides of the bands are hurting my tongue and it's been impossible to eat or even live without gobs and gobs of wax.
I was wondering, do these inconveniences ever go away? Or is it normal to have your tongue attacked by the bands for a couple of days?
I don't know if I should make an appointment with my orthodontist for this...
anyway, nice to meet you all, I hope I posted the question in the right spot, hope to hear from all of you soon!

Welcome misstat....

from what you are saying, you are experiencing everything that i did with my molar bands at first. I will say yes you will get used to them, and keep up with the wax as needed. My top molar bands have a goofy hook configuration on them and my bottom ones have cleats on them. The tops there was nothing they could do with the goofy hooks, but the bottoms since the cleats were not going to be used they flattened them after i asked. There were many of times i got my tongue hooked on them and boy did that hurt....Once they flattened them they are fine and i dont even think about them any more (unless i think about it like now)

Welcome aboard and congrats on taking on this journey!

Keep us updated with your progress.

Hi, thank you very much!
turns out they could adjust them a bit, one of them was too big and they replaced it , and they feel a lot better now.

Yes... it all gets better. It'll feel normal in no time and your mouth will get used to them.
