Question with pics...

#1 Post by jimmy18 »

I have a question about how the archwire is going to work.

I know that my bottom teeth are not level with one another. How exactly does the archwire fix this? I know it is going to straighten out over time. But is it going to move my teeth down, or is it going to bring them further out of the gums to achieve this?

Also a question regarding this next picture

There is an angle in the archwire were it starts to slope upwards from one tooth to the next. Does that mean that the Dr. is trying to bring the to the same level as the teeth on the right? And for all the remaining teeth "behind" the slant that they will follow the one that is moved first?

Hope that everyone can understand what I am trying to say.
Thanks for any input.

Sometimes moving the teeth will make them more level. If not than the ortho or your dentist can either file them or build the up to make them level straight accross. My teeth wont be level when I am done due to wear and chips but my dentist is planning on building up the lower ones to bring them level.

What do you mean by "build up"?

By using a composite material to build up a short tooth and making it level with neighboring teeth.

The wire will try to straighten itself out, so some teeth will move up, some down. When I look back at pictures of when I first started with braces, I can't believe my teeth moved that much, but they did and, of course, yours will, too :)
