Orthognathic surgery after braces

#1 Post by fenderella »

My ortho informed me that I have a retruded jaw, that can only be corrected with orthognathic surgery. I've noticed the jaw problem ever since I was younger and have wanted to fix it. My ortho told me that I had the option of having it corrected before braces were put on. Because of the costs, I decided to just go ahead with the braces and skip the surgery for now.

I'd like to get the surgery eventually. Can I get it done after the braces are taken off (and bit corrected) and might I have to return to braces after having the correction?

Thanks for any information!

I have a similar problem with my overbite, I need the lower jaw surgery. I am curently in braces and will have them during the operation and some months after. I'm sure you could get the surgery after braces because they need your teeth to be aligned first and yours will be. You may need them afterwards just so they can attach the elastics to something. I will need elastics on as well so maybe you will just need brackets on your back teeth with the little elastic hooks. Hope this helped, sorry can't give any official info :?
