Still in treatment, wires cut
Hi everyone out there! So my previous orthodontist appointment was a couple weeks ago. I went to my 6 month cleaning at my dentist office today! Yay no cavities
Anyways, my dentist was thoroughly puzzled as to why my orthodontist cut off all the wires from my canines back on top and bottom teeth and added a new variation of rubber bands to try as he said trying to make my back teeth touch each other. I have rather small teeth...and they have been trying to do this for about 5 months now. But anyways, has anyone had their wires cut while still in treatment to that extreme?

I would be interested to see if anyone has experienced this too. I could have sworn my ortho said at my last appointment that he is going to remove half of my brace but leave my right side braced and use elastics to try and correct my bite on that side... I did not have a clue what he meant and as I was in a rush just agreed and then had to go. It's bothering me now because surely the other teeth would need to be retained somehow

Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower
Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months
Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces)
Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded

I'm no expert but I think back teeth are pretty stable once in position as they naturally want to push to the front of the mouth.
This is why those of us with small mouths or big teeth .. or both ! end up with misaligned front teeth in the first place!
If the pressure on the front is equal from both sides then the front should be more stable I would have thought.

Re: Still in treatment, wires cut
Okay cool. Well, I am missing a couple back teeth on the bottom and they closed one space by moving the teeth together. The other side still has the space for the tooth. Now, it looks like my bottom front teeth are slanting pretty badly to the left, when they were all lined up before they changed rubber band variation and cut off wires. And one of the back teeth I now have to wear rubber bands on, is rotating and extremely loose. Rotated so badly the bracket is now touching the other tooth to where I can't wear the rubber bands as assigned, in a box type variation on both sides. And I was told at my last appointment I only had a month or so left
Here's pictures of my bite now....I dunno if I should call them Monday or just wait until my appointment on the 30th.

Well, as I have been poking around and looking at my teeth, I noticed that my wire on the right side goes to my first molar on bottom and on the left it stops at the small tooth by the first molar.
I guess I'm going to call them up Monday, and see if they can take a look and see if everything is correct........

Well I went in today! They said the last assistant clipped the wire too short;therefore, it wasn't engaging that first molar on the left side.
So they replaced my whole bottom wire, and now using a different variation of elastics. Can already see improvements, and feel it too! Ooowwiee.
Thanks for everyone's opinion!

Kudos to you for being aware of what's going on in your mouth. My ortho likes it when patients bring things like this to his attention.
