Post Surgery nasal congestion

#1 Post by shutmymouth »

My nose is horribly congested. I can't breathe out of it. AT ALL.

I think it might be blood but I'm not sure. Has anyone had this probem?

What did you do so you could breathe through your nose?

I just had surgery on the 16th and I was amazed I could breathe out of my nose...well..one nostril! And I'm pretty sure that one had the breathing tube in it! Now the other one, a different story. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. Right after they put me in a room, the Dr.s came in and started cleaning my nose out with hydrogen peroxide and diluted with water (loosens up mucous). They also started giving me Sudafed. Now that I'm home, I'm still taking the Sudafed and using Afrin nasal spray. So, if I was you I would check to see if you could use some peroxide and water and get a q-tip and get to cleaning! That dried blood thing is no joke! HTH!!

Try running a humidifier close to where you are sleeping/spending most of the day (mine was next to my couch LMAO). It really helped clear up my nose. I would use q-tips to clean out my nose every day too. I never had to use a decongestant spray or nasal strips even though I had bought both pre-op in preparation for the surgery. I used the humidifier constantly for the first 3-4 weeks and it really helped keep my nose clear.
