will I ever get used to this...

#1 Post by tizzy »

Hi all, I'm new to Invisalign (just started 4 days ago) and I have to say I'm having a heck of a time getting used to these things. I'm not experiencing any pain, I just can't seem to get accustomed to having these things sitting in my mouth. At times it's all I can do from keeping myself from ripping them out of my mouth (I don't of course ha) I'm told I will get used to them and I leave them in for 22 hours hoping the longer they are there, the faster I will get used to them but so far they are still driving me crazy. I understand it's only been 4 days so maybe I'm just being impatient. I'm just wondering if this is normal. I would really appreciate any feedback or advice. Thanks everyone!

By your second aligner you'll be more comfortable with them.

I didn't have that problem when I started. It is probably within normal though. I think you will get used to them. What exactly is hard to get used to?

Quite honestly, I almost feel that way without the aligners now. I promise you will get used to them. Soon you wont even realize you have them in your mother.

Ha that was hilarious.

I'm just always conscious of having this thing resting in my mouth. I don't mind pressure (that way I know it's working) I just feel uncomfortable. The rim of the aligner on my gum is what's bugging me the most. I admit though I'm on day 7 and it has gotten a lot better. I think I have to not focus on it so much and just suck it up :) Thanks so much for everyone's help!

I am still having a hard time with them and honestly most people who know me have heard me say that I hate them. Are they better than metal? I have no idea. Is is good that they are mostly invisible and that we're not restricted in what we eat? Absolutely. And am I glad that my teeth will be straight when it's all said and done? Yes!! Yes!! Yes!! But I don't like them. It seems like every other aligner cuts my mouth. This one (5/21) cuts the top of my tongue and the side of my mouth. I have also had cuts on the bottom of my tongue. I get these spit bubbles that come up when I say ss words and I am constantly drinking water to keep my mind and tongue off of them. I love taking them out and dread putting them back in. I am not used to them and feel like I never will be. At the end of November I will see my ortho and see if he can smooth out my next several sets and maybe that'll help. It's so sad to feel like the only person who doesn't love them  and I really hope that you will soon love them like everyone else on this site, but if you don't, you have company.

I've only had my 1st aligner on last night and frankly I rather have them on. The teeth sure get numb and sensitive when you pop them out. Sleeping is no problem.

Well I can now say I got used to them (as much as anyone can be I guess ha)

That second day was so uncomfortable but now like you all said it's a lot better. I hope you are doing better lomdogs! I know what you mean about cutting your tongue yeesh! But using a nail file helped a lot with that. In the end it will all be worth it *sends you good invisalign vibes*

I'm getting my attachments put on in two weeks so I imagine I will be complaining about that at first too ha. Anyway thanks for everyones help!

I've had my first set of aligners for 11days now. Frankly, they feel loose now. I liked the initial feeling when they're tight and putting pressure on the teeth. Now, I feel like they do nothing but collect saliva and leave my mouth all dry.

I find my speeech gets worst as they loosen up towards day 10. All that spit collecting. :( . I sure miss my long breakfast in the morning and sipping coffee. Long dinners with friends. Now I inhale my food, run frantically to the bathroom and clean my teeth. SIGH. It's only been 13 days and tray 1 out of 36. Seems soooo far away...
