removing lower hawley

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

removing lower hawley

#1 Post by jay »

May sound like a daft question but how are you supose to remove your lower hawley.

I had braces as a kid but upper only and not lowers like this time round, so i know how to take the upper hawley but not the lower.

Ortho watched me put my retainers in but not how to take them out.

Are you supose to take it out by the plastic bit over the wire or pull it from the back.

I just dont want to be doing anything i should not be doing.

I put the nail side of my thumbs against the fronts of the lower teeth - push up and catch the bottom of the front wire with my thumbnails. Pops right off every time (and my lower Hawley is very tight fitting). Works for me.
I think its one of those things you develop a natural feel for very quickly.
Harder to describe than to do.
