Getting braced on Wednesday 8th Nov - need abit of advice!!

I nkow I may be late....but if not do them BOTH! Nothing is more frustrating than to go through this hassle only to have to repeat it again. What I do know is if your bite is wrong and you have any tendency for TMJ the suffering you'll have will far outweigh whether or not you had a little extra sparkle in your mouth on your wedding day.

Hi Mike! Thank you for your reply! And no u were not too late i have another 11 hours to go!!! I am definately looking to get both top and bottom done now. I will get my tops done 2moro and enquire with my dentist about gettin my 2 bottom ones out. You are right, better to get them done at the same time. There have been so many people on here that had braces as a child and due to not wearing retainers regularly are having to get them done again. I didnt even know teeth are prone to move about still, i assumed once they are straightened they will stay like that for life! I think if this point had been stressed enough when people were younger it may have prevented alot of the repeat cases now. I am sorry to hear that you're having to get them done again too. I was told that i would get that fixed retainer which they will put in at the back of my teeth. Maybe you could get that one too when you're done. Good luck with it!

Kay, I have the same problem....over crowding and overlapping front tooth. I've been in ceramic on top for a little over a month and already the overlapped tooth has straightened out. This is the first time I have seen all of my two top front teeth! The one tooth always covered part of the next tooth. Good luck! Neelie

Hi Neelie! Oh wow u have the same prob! Or should i say had! Its my overlapped front tooth that im looking forward to being straightened out the most! I just cant imagine how it will look all lined up!! Thank you for ur post, cant wait to see some changes like you have! Hope the rest of your treatment goes well for you!

You mentioned u will ask your "dentist" again, why you dentist? does u dentist do u braces? Not an orthodontist? Dentists usually are much less qualified for braces.

If i were you, i would go with top and bottom full ceramics for the least visibility and probably wouldn't even take them out for wedding, cos they hardly will be visible on pics, except maybe for very close pictures, but then, like others mentioned, there are options to manipulate pictures and erase u braces from them, or even better getting them temporarily removed for some days. So the best is that u relax now and have a nice marriage next year, with nice aligned teeth

I'm weighing in late too but i agree with tmost on the timeframe and the wedding thing. Pics can be doctored, most are from far away and by that time, you'll be so used to your braces you may not want to go through the hassle of getting them off then on again.

I too, like you and neelie, have the overcrowding and overlapping front tooth thing going on. I also (have had my braces for only a week) am looking forward to seeing both my front teeth entirely. How exciting!

I agree with the doing the whole shebang. Get 'em all fixed while you can - you'll be happier later. I went for metal on top and bottom. Ceramics were more expensive in my case - my ortho didn't mention longer treatment time so that wasn't an issue. I just figured, I'm 38 years old and if i can't handle some people looking funny @ me at this point in my life, my skin isn't thick enough.

Hi Onny! I got metals, as my ortho didnt let me have the ceramics!! Said he would only b able to get my teeth done on time with the metals! They feel and look very funny on me. Still tryin to get used to them and slowly tellin people at work over email thru conversation so its not arkward when i see them!!

And i meant my ortho not dentist..woops!!

How are you coping with ur brace? I put that brase-eze wax on them before i went sleep, that felt good! When i smile and try to close my mouth it seems to tug on my gum and i have to do this mouth action thing to get my lip over my brace!! Not good! I guess it'l take time to get used to!

Bip - hey i ended up getting metals too, its been hard to get used to and to face people but you have inspired me. After all we're doing it for ourselves and to better our teeth, who cares what people think! Thank you!

Metals are more cute anyway and no need to be scared of staining.

To get you lips over the brackets when smiling that way, u just have to use a bit of lip balm now and then, it really helps, making the brackets slide over u lips/gum.

Im doin fine with my braces btw, thx for asking. I had to use Wax on my 4 molar bands, because all those 4 places were already very wound yesterday, it seem to get better now thu, did 3 salt rinses today and didnt eat or talked much.

Of course we don't need to care of what others think, its our mouth and we are doing a great thing for a better smile (and bite) When i was done yesterday and went shopping I once caught me talking with a bit closed mouth and smiled with closed lips to a vendor, but then realized it and just smiled as always =) I absolutely have no need for any hiding, otherwise id not taken blue ligs on full metal brackets, wouldn't I?

Onny that is very true.
I have a wire that likes to pop up on one of my front brackets, i may end up having it snipped some more. I was told to take my nail and just bend it back towards the tooth. Whenever i brush it likes to come back.
I tried wax on my molar bands, well on the inside next to my tongue is where its bothering me now, i've quit taking pain killers thank god!

I had just posted some questions about only getting the upper ones done when I read your posts. A friend had told me I'd need to get the bottom ones done too but my Ortho doesn't seem to think so. Did you ask about your lower ones when you got the upper ones braced?

Well i have had my uppers in for 12 days now and i am not having any diffuculty with them! First week i was finding it uncomfortable and was using loads of brace-eze as it was rubbing against my gums loads. I was coming towards the end of my tube and ordered 5 more over the net and i havnt even had to open them yet!

I dont even feel my brace in my mouth at times! I didnt feel any pain when i had my braces in, i was doing a lot of warm salt water rinses etc. I need to get my lower ones done as i have to have 2 teeth out and have one overlappin tooth. What are your bottom ones like? U should be able to see urself if u will need them. I have a slight overbite too which my ortho will try to correct.

Teddy i was in exactly the same boat as u before i got mine. It really isnt anything to worry about though, once you get through the first hurdle - actually getting ur tops on, you'l be fine. If you have any questions after this that you may not have asked your ortho etc then this site is really good for helping you out! I was on here loads a few days after gettin braced, it really helped!

Thanks for the advice - yes, you've probably realised I'm more the pessimistic type! Well, one more week before the big brace so here's hoping I go through with it this time!! I think finding this site has already helped immensely and I only discovered it a couple of days ago. Thanks again.
