Well it is only 2 weeks since my last adjustment and I am already losing the white coating on the wire between my left lateral incisor and canine. That is where it started to go first with my last wire; perhaps that is where I start brushing my brace and it therefore gets the most rubbing.

With my first wire, a lot of the coating had gone by day 40. I will try to post a picture of that. I hope it is not as bad again this time.

Hi KellyB,

You can see from the atached pic that the coating is wearing off between my left lateral incisor and canine. It is also starting to go in the same place on the other side. I am going to a dinner with clients on 16 March and hope it will not be too much worse by then.

How are your wire and powerchain doing? I think I may be getting a powerchain at my next adjustment in 4 weeks. From what I have seen elsewhere on this site, I think with Damon brackets the powerchain is fitted under the wire so it will not protect the wire from wear ( assuming I get a white wire next time, which may not necessarily be the case).

I hope things are going well with you and look forward to seeing pictures of your top brace soon.

my wire is still fine, thank God! i am trying to preserve it. my next adjustment is in 12 days so hopefully it will survive until then. regarding the powerchain, there is none on the right side of mouth, only the left and the middle teeth. i really do think it has a part to play with the wire staying intact this month. didn't really have any unusual discomfort with the powerchain.

when will you get your lowers fitted?

Hi KellyB,

No lower brace for me! My lowers, whilst not perfect, are not too bad and my bite is OK. I am only having my top front teeth straightened and, as you may have noticed from my pics, only have brackets on the front 6 teeth. My orthodontist calls this a sectional brace. I will probably have brackets added to my second premolars ( first premolars removed years ago) at my next adjustment to help the derotation of my canines, particularly the left one, but do not expect to have brackets or bands any further back.

I am glad to hear you have had no discomfort with the powerchain.

jem, it looks like i was rejoicing too soon. took a good luck at my wire this morning and noticed i could see a couple of areas where it was indeed stripping. nothing major but still... :(
let's see how long i can preserve it for

i only had my adjustment 4 days ago and already the wire on bottom is losing some of it's coating as it appears i have been brushing rigorously :-(
i have a feeling i might have to make a trip to the ortho to get my wires changed before my next adjustment which is over 4 weeks away

I am 3 months in now and had my second adjustment yesterday. I had more IPR between my incisors and canines and also had clear Damon clear brackets placed on my premolars to match the brackets on my front 6 teeth. This was because the previous arrangement was not moving my twisted left canine and adding a bracket to the premolar should provide extra force. The edge of the canine appears to be wedged into the middle of the edge of the premolar ( whereas it should abut the outside of the edge) so I think it will take some shifting.

Because of the acute angle between the brackets on the left incisor and canine, I have gone back to a 0.014 wire- again with white coating. After 7 weeks, the previous one was badly stripped but the new set up is looking very neat and I am still pleased to be offered white wires.

hi jem :jump:
let us see a pic of your new wires :D
i had an adjustment a little over 2 weeks ago and already almost all the coating on the bottom wire is gone and the top is slowly stripping as well. i have decided to leave work an hour early this evening and pop in my ortho office to get my wires, ligs and powerchains changed so i should have nice neat wires this evening too :D

Thanks kellyb

I should have said the acute angle between the canine and premolar . Picture attached. Apologies for horrible cold sore which typically just had to erupt only a few days before ortho appointment.

For reasons which I don't understand, my ortho has deliberately left the wire long on the left hand side pressed against my molar. Perhaps this provides a little additional leverage without actually bracketing that tooth? I had never realised how horrible the filling in that tooth looks until I started taking pictures of my orthodontic treatment.
