I'm so sorry Sara that you are going through this. Remember to breathe and take it one day at a time. This surgery is definitely a roller coaster ride.

aww thank you. Im a year and 5 months out, I can't believe I have this many problems still. Im just really scared this tension is being caused by nerve damage and there is nothing I can do. Also, there has been no benefit to the surgery in my case. I would have been 100% better without it. The only reason I did the surgery was because I was convinced I had a receded lower third, but my surgeon ended up doing a genioplasty that moved my chin back which completely erased the benefits of moving my jaw forward. My surgery was planned wrong, it should have been double jaw surgery both forward and nothing on the chin :( My surgeon has offered 0 guidance on helping me which also sucks. I had a bad feeling about him to start with, but I trusted my orthodontist so much when he recommended him. I should have seen more surgeons, or better yet, not even done this surgery since my overbite was so small, causing no problems and nicely camouflaged with my chin.

Hey Sara,
Here's a thought; have you tried Celebrex? It's a cox 2 inhibitor that is similar to a strong Motrin and helps with pain and swelling. Take it once a day and can taken it longer than 2 weeks. Folks take it for arthritis; I've been on it since my artificial disc replacement surgery in my neck. It's certainly worth a try and you could probably get your Primary care provider to order it if you give them the background of your issue and what you've done thus far to alleviate it.

Here's a good article too on orthognathic surgery complications.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5342970/

also cloudy angel,

do things feel better after hardware removal? is it more comfortable to talk? I am going to push to remove my hardware, I really need it to work.
knowing that I will live a lifelong (at least 70 more years) of constant pain/discomfort because of a botched surgery that I 100% did not need and was manipulated into agreeing too and even made me look worse might be to much to bear especially since it is so hard to go about my day to day.

I would go for hardware removal. Do you know how many plates and screws you have? I have heard the longer you wait to do the removal, the harder it can be because your bone grows around the hardware. But, I am not sure about that ...

However, have you noticed any facial sagging since your procedure? I have developed huge Nasolabial pockets, and all of specialists I have visited have sent me back to my jaw surgeon who is on vacation all of this month. And his associate is not very helpful. I only found one person on another blog who wrote about this, but I can't seem to get access to this bulletin board to ask her a question.

Best Regards,

Yes I have noticed my chin sags downward :( I have no idea why my surgeon did a "setback genioplasty" on me. There was nothing wrong with my chin.

How is the feel of your mouth since you removed the chin plate. I wonder if my chin plate is getting "stuck" to the chin muscle overtime I talk because thats what it feels like. Can you speak comfortably now?

yes I do have a double chin because of the surgery, but also when I talk the chin pad does not feel like it is supported by bone, it sags all the way down :( When I talk my lower lip and chin feel very uncomfortable...it stiffens up very uncomfortably. My lips also move crooked when I speak.

I don't know the exact measurements; 6mm forward and a lot of the chin off (I want to say at least 4mm)

I am 9 months post lefort 1, BSSO, and sliding genioplasty. I can totally relate to the tightness and pulling in your chin. It is a horrible feeling and I cannot imagine living the rest of my life like this. I am aware of it at all times and affects eating and speaking. It seems to get worse with talking and with stress. I was hoping that getting the braces off and bite corrected would help bc of working hard to keep mouth shut. Do you still have braces?

Nochokiin - have you discussed this with your doctor? Have you asked him to evaluate you for Scar Tissue??

I had a problem with scar tissue.
