what does your altered sensation/numbness feel like when you talk? Can you feel something is different?

I had numbness and tingling in my lower left lip and chin, and yes, it felt strange when I talked, like when you have novacaine for dental work. It felt like my lip was dragging down or something. But when I looked in the mirror, it looked normal. The motor nerves were fine, but the sensation nerves were damaged. In my case this was from a jaw fracture, not surgery, but the results were the same. It has not resolved 100%, but probably 80-90% at this point, and talking feels normal again. The only time I realize that it's still not 100% is if I run my fingertips on the area below my left lower lip and feel a bit of tingling and odd sensation.

Apparently it can take a year or more to completely resolve as these nerves are very slow to regrow, so I am still hopeful for 100% resolution.

April 21 will be one year, so I may not regain 100% nerve regeneration, but it's so much better than it was. If it stays like this, I can live with it, but I'm still hopeful I might recover even more.

Thanks Emily. I had surgery a few weeks after that date, so I'm approaching one year in a few months. I don't mind feeling numb, I just hate the stiff/tight feeling I can feel in my chin and lower lip when I speak. I really really hope this resolves. The tightness started 3 months after my surgery.
