Looking for maxillofacial surgeons in these countries (Eastern Europe)

#1 Post by josh5464 »

A lot of the top maxillofacial surgeons are found in western europe but for me it's only possible to get my surgeries done in any of these countries: Serbia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece or Macedonia.
I'd like to know information about any maxillofacial surgeons AT ALL in these countries so I can contact them for a consultation, but preferably I'd like to know who are the top professionals like Obwegeser, Momaerts, etc. Since prices are usually so low in these countries for surgery I think it'd be foolish not to choose the best most experienced surgeon who can give the best care and best surgery plan.

I've also heard from someone else that usually in these countries surgery is usually actually preferred versus braces, is this true? Why?

Anyway any help would be appreciated man thx

I"m not sure about those countries specifically but a lot of times here in the United States the best surgeons are also professors or sit on a board of medical directors at a top university or hospital in a big city.

I would say make sure to find a surgeon who is a specialist at the exact procedure you want, not someone who only "occasionally" performs jaw surgery one or twice every couple years.

Also, if you cannot have the procedure due to medical/visa restrictions a lot of times you can petition for an exception to have it done in another country. Those countries are very close to Rome, Vienna, Munich, etc. where some of the top surgeons in the world practice. Orthognathic surgery is a major procedure with many potential complications so it's worth saving up for another few months or so to have it performed by a skilled surgeon; the results will be with you for the rest of your life.

thx a tonne, your answer is really helpful. I found a few surgeons on the European board EACMFS and I will think about contacting them. It depends but I may just get the surgery done in one of the countries you listed but the travel is a bit of an issue for now. I would've thought Istanbul would have a lot of skilled and experienced surgeons too just because of how big it is and how it's sort of a hub for that kind of stuff.

Many doctors do virtual consultations as well, so I think you should consider emailing them some pictures and seeing if they will consider your case.

I've also heard many private surgeons in Europe have travel accomodations since it's common for people to travel from other countries to have procedures, so the price may even be cheaper than a regular hotel.

It never hurts to ask!

It might be too far, but I had surgery in Slovenia by dr. Kočar and he was great. Also a specialist for this kind of surgery ;)

Did you end up meeting with any doctors? How did it go?

no, I've decided that first I will look for surgeons in new zealand and australia where I am. I'm going to an ENT this friday after a long waiting time and after that I will be referred to a maxillofacial specialist hopefully

So you live in Australia/New Zealand or in Eastern Europe?

I'm sure there are plenty of good surgeons in either area, just make sure you find someone who matches your esthetic/functional goals and tell them exactly what you expect from the surgery in both regards; Lots of people get surgery through NHS/insurance to correct a functional impairment and their surgeries don't address any esthetic improvements.

Good luck
