You pretty much covered the biggest issue; but there's more to it; a forward position of the head in relation to your neck. Remodeled airway because of that. Narrow nasal passages due to narrow upper arch. There's a few videos out there if you want to do more research.
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

I've stopped the mouth breathing . But is it true that the only way to fix my teeth/jaws would be with braces/surgery ?

The treatment options available depends on the severity of the issue, age and will also vary from person to person. I'm no professional, but I would say though, if you are past 18, I'm afraid surgery may be the only answer if you have some kind of skeletal discrepancy.

Your ortho and or surgeon would be able to give you a treatment plan and or options after they have examined you and taken some diagnostic tests and xrays. You should discuss this with your medical team if you haven't already.
