Going into my ortho today to get surgical hooks, double jaw surgery is scheduled for August 30th at 8:30 am! Hope these hooks aren't super annoying and/or painful, some people seem really bothered and some not at all. I have ceramic braces and an overbite so if they are noticeable, they will be to everyone. What I've heard from this board is that the week prior and the week after are the worst. Just the waiting to get it over with and the wait to get through the tough days, can't wait to just get rid of this anxiety and move forward with life!!!

Surgical Hooks are on and are NOT as noticeable/painful as I imagined, the appointment took longer then I expected, I was in the chair for about an hour and a half, but nothing too painful. The aftermath felt similar to when you first get your braces on. Yesterday I had my pre-op appointment (surgery is in 5 days) and I feel like all my questions were answered. Moving my upper jaw 4 mm and bring my lower jaw out as much as possible (he didn't give me exact measurement). My surgeon said I would wake up banded (no wires), no splint (only used during the surgery and taken off prior to when I wake up), no catheter and nose tube will be out before I awake as well, SCORE! On this board I've seen people say their surgery took anywhere from 1hr-10hrs, I was happy to hear my DBJ surgery will take 1 1/2-2 1/2 hours :D. I will be staying in the surgery center overnight (not a hospital), which allows me to get one on one care since the only patience that stay overnight is jaw surgery patiences! In the morning (around 8am) my husband will escort me to the surgeons office for check in, records, ect. Then I should be on my way home for recovery! I was told I could take some anxiety medication the night prior to the surgery and that I should only be banded fully from my surgery date (Wednesday) to that Monday (5days). Afterwards, I'd only have a few bands on. At that point, he said I'm free to eat anything I can "put a fork through". He said I may not be able to open my mouth wide enough, but didn't give me any restrictions after that point. I'm just ready to wake up and be able to touch my lips together and feel my top and bottom teeth touch for the first time!! Good luck to everyone else going through this, I hope the waiting is the worst part!

Good luck Leah :) keep us posted. I'll be having my appointment on 20th September, since it was postponed, so I hope my surgery date is bofore New Year. But I'll be bummed if I can't eat for Christmas.

Hi, I had my SARPE on May 17, 2017, still have the expander in , and it is a terrible thing to deal with, I agree. Do you still have yours in? I hope your August 30th surgery went well for you.

Hi Everyone!
So I wanted to post on this a while a go but got nervous and didn't do it XD
I just got back from my surgery, I had maxillary and mandibular osteotomy surgery, they cut my lower jaw and upper.
Surgery went fine, at first I felt terrible, but now I am sitting on my couch OK, a little swollen but not too bad. It feels like the wooden bite plate between the roof of my mouth and bottom teeth is slipping off but I am sure its just my nerves =P

I rigged up a sweet ice pack to wrap around my face. Would post a pic of it but I dont know how. Boost chocolate shakes seem like they will be life! :jump: so good and so many calories and grams of protein. Dr Shoeman at the Anaheim Cramer offices of Kaiser Permanente did my surgery, he was great! Really friendly, and I felt totally comfortable with him cutting up my jaw, he seemed really confident and knowledgeable about his work.

Anyways I hope everyone else's surgeries went well! I cant wait to see and feel the results XD
-Tim

Hey guys! I also made this spread sheet that keeps track of your diet - calorie and protein intake, plus you can keep a log of weight, and things that happen during the day. Sample is linked below!!! Hope it helps <3

Hi - could someone please comment on if their post-op swelling was noticeable to others even after 1 month / 2 months after surgery? Many on this thread seem to be very acutely aware of their swelling over time (for obvious reasons), but I'm wondering if after a few to several weeks, it wasn't as noticeable to others when going back out in public? Would appreciate any replies.
