My braces story at 24 yrs old!
Hi everyone, I am just getting started with my braces but am excited to share the journey with you
I'm a 24 year old high school teacher from Australia. I've had crooked teeth since my adult teeth came in... my parents wanted me to get braces as a teenager but as I was a keen trumpet player (and I had a fear of the dentist), I used that as an excuse to not got ahead with it. My crooked teeth have always affected my self-esteem and, especially now that I've started my teaching career, I've decided that having a nice smile is going to really improve my confidence. The only downside is that I have to pay for them all myself !
I am going to the orthodontist my brother went to; he was in plates and then braces (they started plates too late) and has achieved a beautiful smile. I know that my orthodontist is really thinking about my whole mouth/face, not just smile aesthetics. The diagnosis:
- Crowding in both arches
- Class II malocclusion
- Underdeveloped maxillary and mandibular arch
- Posterior left cross-bite
- Tongue thrust
My ortho also noticed clicking in my jaw and wants to make sure I don't develop TMJ in the future. Basically what he told me is that we can achieve a good result, however, only surgery will achieve a perfect result to re-position my jaw. I don't want to go down the surgery route so am happy to see what can be done with orthodontics alone.

My bottom teeth are really hurting today. The top teeth don't hurt at all, even after the wire change yesterday.
I can notice a small improvement in the top teeth.... I really want that other lateral incisor to come down... it's still a snaggle tooth

I hope my orthodontist's technique of bracketing every bottom tooth will work...
I will try and find an affordable water pick

Re: My braces story at 24 yrs old!
Here is the progress at 2 months (only 1 month for the bottom). I can notice some slight movement though am impatient for more. One of the front brackets on the bottom teeth came off two days after it was put in.... it wasn't attached to the archwire in the first place so the ortho said we'll find a solution at the next appointment.

Re: My braces story at 24 yrs old!
The bottom teeth quite clearly have severe crowding and so after 1 month I come notice next to no movement... didn't really feel like posting this but I just need to suck it up and be patient.

Wow, they are coming right along! I know you must feel some excitement!! I'm so intimidated by the extra hardware you are sporting! You are brave and I know it will all be worth it for you!!
