My Metal Story!

#1 Post by crimsonrayne07 »

This is my braces story so far! :D

I really did not want to upload this picture..but here it goes!

Image

I began my journey with braces at 20years of age! I went to my consultation on Feb 5th of 2010. I was nervous, anxious, ect! My husband came with me for support. He has been my rock through this whole new journey for me! :) Anyways, this office I went to was very friendly, although I felt as if the Consultation woman was a little rude after hearing where I work at. I work at mcdonalds. I know not that great, but as of now it's making my bills.
Anyways! Once my husband and I got our finances together, I scheduled my braces appointment for July 20th of 2010! They were to do the molds at 10am and then I was to come back at 1pm for the bracing. I was once again so nervous. My husband went with me again. :) We went in the office at 10am. They decided once I got in there to go ahead and do the braces. They didn't do any molds, which I thought was weird, but I just had major spaces in my top front teeth, no crowding or anything. But, the only thing initially annoying about the appointment was that dang mouth opener thingy. I hated that!! Anyways, the orthodonitist came over and talked to me. An assistant placed the brackets and wires. I got my 'No-no' List. Surprisingly, it was not as painful as I had anticipated.
My next appointment was scheduled 8 weeks from then. So those 8 weeks went by, nothing broke, saw a little movement. I talked funny for about 2 weeks. I couldn't pronouce my 'r's, s, or st's properly! It was terrible! :p
So, my next appointment was Sept. 7. Everything, as far as I can remember, went good from this appointment. Still not a lot of pain, but seeing lots of movement!
Next appointment, Nov 2nd. Had another wire change, and power chains were placed on my front two teeth to pull them together. Can I say OWWIIE! Haha. That was painful. At this point, still nothing broke! Yay!
Next appointment, Dec 28th! Yet another wire change. And the added, dreadful rubber bands! Italys on the left and Koreans on the right! Finally seeing real progress :D Although! This appointment was a little distressing that night, when I finally got off work and noticed they FORGOT to close the bracket on my front tooth! It had started to make the tooth set backwards! So, I was stuck with pushing the wire in and closing the bracket it myself, so no real damage was done! I know big no no! Should have checked everything out before I left the office, but I didn't.
Next appointment, Feb 22nd! This was my BIG appointment! I was getting pontics placed for my two missing lateral incisors! It was a rather long appointment. The orthodontist had to shape the teeth inbetween seeing other patients. They were at this point going to try a heavier wire 20/20 I believe is what it was called. Well, the ortho, whom has never placed a wire on me, tried pushing the wire in the back right bracket and made the bracket pop right off! So the ortho got mad and walked away. The assistant replaced the bracket and then put on my old wire. And also put the power chains on the 2 front teeth again. It felt great having the missing teeth placed, although they weren't placed where they looked 'normal' ,but that was okay! A few days later, the right pontic fell off the bracket. I guess they didn't glue it all the way or whatever, but it fell off. I scheduled an appointment for the next day to fix it. I went in for this appointment. They were a little rude about it, like it was my fault, but I hadn't ate/did anything to cause it to fall out. So, I was sat with an assistant. A new ortho came over and placed the bracket properly on the pontic. Then the assistant took the wire out and then adjusted the pontics. I went out to my car looked in the mirror, and they had forgotten to put the power chains back on the 2 front teeth. I went in, and they took me to the assistant in the side room that does the xrays and takes pictures of the teeth. And she was like, "Wow I'm glad you didn't go all the way home, because they didn't close the bracket on this pontic. It would have fallen out." So she fixed everything for me and was exceptionally kind.
Next appointment April 19rd! Had another wire change. Added power chains all around. Can I say ow! No problems this time! yay! :)
Next appoinment, June 14th! So this was the first appointment with my new orthodontist from this practice, apparently they had got rid of my orthodonist who I ALWAYS saw! The new ortho came over and checked everything. He then had the assistant add molar bands or whatever they're called! And put a flimsier wire in placed. Once again, no broken brackets, wires, or anything!
Next appointment, August 8th! Just another wire and power chains replaced, back in rubber bands. Korean right, italy left!
Next appointment, October 4th! They placed the final wire! Replaced power chains, and still to wear rubber bands. This appointment was really painfull. I cried when I got to my car!
Next appointment, Nov. 15! <.< My 3 year wedding anniversary! :D Ortho came over checked everything. I was told I could quit wearing rubber bands! Assistant changed out the power chains. Next appointment, Dec. 27th! Assistant changed out power chains!
Next appointment, Feb 17th. Ortho came over checked everything, had assistant change out power chains again. And was told once again to wear rubberbands. These ones are called sealions. And when I finally got home from my running around after my appointment at about 8pm. I was flossing, and noticed that they left a little ring just chilling of the ligature wire like they looped each tooth but left one loop. And they didn't loop the ligature around one of my bottom teeth. Ugh. :/

Image
Please excuse the chapped lips!!
My next appointment is in 4 weeks.
I just find it unusually that all of my appointments up until the final wire have been 8 weeks apart. Then, it was 2-6 week appointments(Oct 4th to Nov. 15. to Dec. 27th). Then another 8 weeks (Dec. 27th to Feb 17th). And thankfully! I haven't broken a single thing! :D And I have only had 2 painful appointment, and only have gotten 1 cavity! Note that this practice I got, there are about 5 orthodontists that rotate offices, so I have no idea whom I'm going to see when I go; and, it is always a different assistant.

Totally wish I would have taken pictures a long the way! Oh well! :p

Continued on.
The previous few appointments have been pretty good. At my appointment about 8 weeks ago, I was told that they were going to not do anything, stop rubber bands, and all that to see how everything was 'holding up'. My next appointment after that....back in rubber bands wires clipped some wires. More information on the other post I posted. v.v I will most certainly try and keep this more up to date! :)

This is where I am at now course of treatment

Jul 10 2012 So my previous orthodontist appointment was a couple weeks ago. I went to my 6 month cleaning at my dentist office today! Yay no cavities :-* Anyways, my dentist was thoroughly puzzled as to why my orthodontist cut off all the wires from my canines back on top and bottom teeth and added a new variation of rubber bands to try as he said trying to make my back teeth touch each other. I have rather small teeth...and they have been trying to do this for about 5 months now.

July 14 2012

Okay cool. Well, I am missing a couple back teeth on the bottom and they closed one space by moving the teeth together. The other side still has the space for the tooth. Now, it looks like my bottom front teeth are slanting pretty badly to the left, when they were all lined up before they changed rubber band variation and cut off wires. And one of the back teeth I now have to wear rubber bands on, is rotating and extremely loose. Rotated so badly the bracket is now touching the other tooth to where I can't wear the rubber bands as assigned, in a box type variation on both sides. And I was told at my last appointment I only had a month or so left . Well, as I have been poking around and looking at my teeth, I noticed that my wire on the right side goes to my first molar on bottom and on the left it stops at the small tooth by the first molar.

Jul 17 2012 Well I went in today! They said the last assistant clipped the wire too short;therefore, it wasn't engaging that first molar on the left side. So they replaced my whole bottom wire, and now using a different variation of elastics. Can already see improvements, and feel it too! Ooowwiee. :| Thanks for everyone's opinion!

Oct 5 2012 I was told to call and schedule a consultation with my dentist for bridge work since Im done with everything ready to remove.braces and my dentist quoted me 5100 for a 6 unit bridge. Wouldn't budge from that. I do not need a 6unit. :? And I felt the need to wait.

Oct. 19 2012 So i called the ortho office and the lady was rude she told me to call and schedule an appointment when i could afford the bridge work that I would have to keep the braces on till I could get the bridgework! :soremouth: I got to thinking how can an assistant just change my treatment plan. I called back...and spoke to another woman who was so much nicer. scheduled me 6 weeks later.

Nov 16 2012 Went in and my ortho said it wouldn't be a problem to hold the space. He also said my teeth weren't perfect but defiantly better than before. I've been in braces for 2 years and 5months. I haven't broken anything at all always made it to every single appointment.ive only had to go in for a few repairs due to assist, ants not double checking work before i left the chair examples brackets not being closed, wires cut that weren't supposed to be cut, wires not pushed into brackets.i I paid my 6100 for my orthodontic work and for him to tell me that they're not perfect which I realize not everyone's absolutely perfect but still. They scheduled me in another
6 weeks to have my braces removed....So at my last 4 appointments there has been nothing done ....each of those appointments being 6 weeks apart...

And also, I was wondering if you had any tips if you needed those appliances such as trying to eat and speak with them?

My apologies everyone who has viewed my story. I tthought I had posted results. I am not happy happy with my outcome. Yes it is better than before but not the perfect smile I thought I would have at the end of my journey a couple years ago. I feel like the top right of my bite looks wonky.

Well everyone I know it's been quite some time since I began my braces journey. My husband and I finally picked up awesome dental insurance through his job. I finally began my last restorative process with two implants. The procedure wasn't bad at all. I just kept my eyes closed and let them do their thing. The dentist was awesome! I go back at the end of January to see how the process is coming along, and hoping to be able to get my final crowns! The dentist adjusted my retainer to accommodate the posts.

Congratulations on the implants, I'm glad it went well! Implants are a big deal. I think your teeth look great, by the way! Have they shifted at all since debanding?
•Braces placed August 14, 2014
•Deband November 11, 2015
•Permanent retainer top and bottom
•Essix retainers top and bottom 16 hr/day for a year and then nightly afterwards.

Yea everything has went great with the implants so far just awaiting the bones to fuse with implant. Nope not at all! I am however having issues with my retainer on the right side now due to the ortho office when they made my retainer somehow left a lot of space in my right canine slot. Since having the implants done, tthe right side of my retainer fit, but wasn't as tight due to the dentist also placing the abutments as well;and, had to drill holes in my fake teeth to accommodate them. I felt some tenderness to the front of my right canine like it felt when I had braces..just that tooth, and it started Friday evening. I'm hoping to see if my dentist can make me a new retainer or figure out something. I intend on going in tomorrow morning if they can work me in.

Coming into the end of my journey! It feels pretty surreal! I had my appointment today to check on healing and bone integration. My dentist said everything looks great! He was amazed at how well my gums healed up, and the assistants made me laugh running around looking for a tray to fit my mouth since I have a smaller mouth. Anyways, they did all of the impressions upper and lower, and along my bite as well. I go back in two weeks to have my crowns fitted, and a new retainer! Ah! I'm so excited.
