Bite turbos

#1 Post by Prometheus »

Yesterday I got brackets on the top arch, so far no big deal. However, unexpectedly, I got bite turbos glued behind my top central incisors. I have two teeth in cross bite and a lot that are edge to edge, so the turbos are there to avoid things breaking and allow for movement. I cannot bite off any food because my teeth no longer touch, anywhere. Surprisingly I found I could not slurp the soup off of a spoon as my lips won't fully close! Someone please tell me this gets better over time

It does get better. I had them too and I hated them but they work so hang in there. Initially, I used to mash food on the roof of my mouth with my tongue but as my teeth came together it got easier. In total, I had them on for 6 months. Best of luck and congratulations on starting your journey.

Thanks for the encouragement. Last night I made hamburgers on the grill thinking they would be a good soft food to eat. What a mistake, when I go to chew, nothing happens as my front teeth abruptly get stopped by the turbos and no action occurs at the molars. It is the most frustrating feeling not to have the molars touch and then having to swallow the un-chewed food. Also, when eating the top brackets seem to accumulate a lot more debris than the bottom ones do. I've had the bottom brackets on for four months now and somehow they are not as bad at trapping stuff.

I don't have turbos but I do have bumpers attached to my lower brackets for the same reason. None of my teeth touch. I was so frustrated at first. I just wanted to BITE something. But it's getting easier. I'm finding I can eat most things now (two weeks after getting both upper and lower braces). I can't bite things with my front teeth but I can tear things off if I hold them between my molars, if that makes sense. If I can't manage that then cutting things/breaking things into small pieces is working. I'm also finding that my wisdom teeth are almost touching suddenly so I'm finding it easier to eat when I push the food right to the back of my mouth and "chew" there (mush things around and swallow haha).

It does get less frustrating and you do figure out ways to break things up/mush them around easier. I will be glad to chew properly again though, not going to lie!

Hi, I was scheduled to get bite turbos but my ortho changed his mind so I had to endure teeth clashing against brackets for six months which wasnt nice. I would have really liked to have had them but appreciate they must take some getting used to so hang in there, I'm sure it will get easier really soon.

In my case I have a lower cross bite and many of the other teeth are edge-to-edge. I understand this is actually a moderate underbite. It is asymmetrical, entirely on one side, all the way back including the molars, so my jaw is torqued and this causes severe stress on my TMJ and a lot of pain. I am not certain why you would want to "opt out" and leave the bite problem alone?

When I got my bumpers on my molars, I HATED it. Couldn't eat anytime but soup. But in time my mouth "adapted " to them and now I can eat almost everything. I've had them on for three months so far.

I've got bite turbos too. They're more annoying than the actual braces. At the moment I only have the brackets of the upper arch on. No wire yet. I need to get my extractions then go back to put the wire and lower arch in. It's frustrating because it means dealing with them for 8 weeks and I won't even see any movement in that time. However I'm getting more used to them. I seem to be able to eat most things so long as they're not too crunchy or hard. I do sometimes stick with soup just because it's a hell of a lot easier!

I just got braces like 5 or 6 hours ago, I have bite turbos and hate them, also they have me wearing elastics from the back of my top teeth to the front of my bottom teeth, one on each side and the discomfort is growing
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I hear ya! After one month I am getting used to the bite turbos. It's still jarring to have them stop your front teeth while chewing, but I've slowly learned to adapt. I just had a new, thicker wire swapped in on my top arch this AM, and it has my full attention at the moment...
