Brackets on the second molars?

#1 Post by Felina Grimm »

So today, the ortho assistant put brackets on my second molars after 3 months. I should have asked why they put brackets instead of bands but I trust that they know what they're doing. Does anyone here have brackets on their molars instead of bands? I just think it's odd.

I have brackets on my second molars. They have stayed on fine for 9 months and I haven't had any rubbing or sore spots from them. They seem to be doing what they are supposed to do! I'm happy I don't have bands-the spacers sound horrible....

I have brackets on my molars. I was relieved when they did that. Bands sound really uncomfortable.

I have brackets on my second molars. The left side constantly digs into my cheek, but the right side is fine (my upper jaw is canted down to the right).

I've had them since September I think and I've had no issues with them popping off or anything like that.

Thanks everyone! For some odd reason I thought they had to put bands on the molars. I was worried about that because I have a small mouth. I have hooked brackets on the first and second molars and they're rubbing against the cheeks but it will go away in time as I had the same issue when I had the braces places on.

I have brackets on all my teeth, too. All my brackets were placed on day 1 but my second molars weren't actually hooked to the wires until last week. The teeth don't hurt but the wire must be rubbing because the inside of my cheek on the bottom is all sore and white.
•Braces placed August 14, 2014
•Deband November 11, 2015
•Permanent retainer top and bottom
•Essix retainers top and bottom 16 hr/day for a year and then nightly afterwards.

They tried to put on brackets on my top upper molars but I had issues with the bracket and wire - I now have bands on my top but still just brackets on the bottom.

Bands are usually used when fillings on the teeth are likely to cause adhesion issues. No fillings, no band usually necessary.

In the Bad Old Days, ALL teeth got bands. Yowza!

UPDATE: The bracket hooks on the second molars are no longer bothering me.

I took a look at the old-fashioned braces. They must have been a pain to put on and remove. Ouch!

None on my back molars...yet. The ortho told me I'm going to have brackets attached sometime in the not too distant future which is something I'm not looking forward to at all. My molar area is where I experience most of my discomfort.

Braces have been on for 3 months now so I guess I'm due.
Braced 17 Sep 2014. Estimated penance 18 months

They waited to put those brackets on until I had my wisdom teeth extracted, in which they did 2 months after (this month).
