Trying to make it better has made it worse!

#1 Post by burtburgerac »

Haven't been a regular poster during my treatment but i now i'm coming towards the end I feel like I need the help of my fellow braced or ex-braced!

The plan was for my brace to come off at my last visit on Monday but when my ortho asked if I was happy with the results and to be de-braced I had to be honest and say that there was one tooth I thought wasn't quite right - the one next to my front tooth which had previously been tucked under. He had a good look and said that they were all aligned but he could see that it looked off. He then said there was one more thing to try to see if it would look right and put a new wire on with another random bend in it. After 2 days of agony in my one front tooth and the one next to it, it appears its actaully my front tooth that has moved so its now not quite in line with my other front tooth. I'm really upset as it looks even worse now, my front teeth are really large and prominant so its really noticeable I think.

Is there any chance that this is just an interim position and it will sort itself over the next coming weeks or am I stuck with it now? That'll teach me for being so picky!!

Any advice gratefully recieved.

burt, I don't have any specific advice but as you probably know, things often look worse before they settle down into a more permanent position. It is definitely something to ask your ortho about, though. Best of luck to you.

Do you think I should wait for my next appointment or try and see him before that?

I tend to be very conservative, so if in doubt make an appointment to see him before your next routine appointment. At the very least he can reassure you and tell you how the tooth will be moving into its final position.

I was due to be having if off next appointment so probably is worth trying to see him before that. Bit worried now that it'll be stuck like this now and won't move back?

You can always call and ask. If it sounds unusual he will probably want to see you, if not, you can get some reassurance without having to make an extra appointment.

I'd say try not to worry too much. With how much teeth move during braces, and after, I doubt the small changes you are noticing can't be corrected.
