Preparing to get Braces! - almost 30.

Hey I'm just starting my journey also!! And I'm almost 30! And I hope to have my braces on March 16th!

I go to get my impressions and stuff Saturday. I made my decision last week that I was going to get braces and now I'm like "ughh can I just get them right NOW!?" because I'm constantly thinking about it... alll the time! But atleast I'm mentally preparing myself. I'm excited for Saturday so I can just know what I need to do or have done for sure!

I also kinda clench my teeth at night. And during the day but I try to avoid doing that if I can think about it. I wear a mouthguard at night, but well... give it a month (hopefully) and I won't be anymore. Or atleast I will have to figure out a different guard to wear. Haven't been "diagnosed" with TMJ or anything but I think I sorta have it too.

I don't think the gold braces would look gangster really either. You should look up the user "Peacebaby" on Youtube. She does videos about her braces and she has clear on top and gold on the bottom. She said the same thing... thinking she'd look like a gangster but they look good. And her videos are sorta funny to watch too.

Rhibee, No, he was only going to give me the kind I bought, one of those one's that you heat up and mould to your teeth. I tried to mould it this afternoon and it did not go well! It might help if I wait until my teeth stop hurting from this mornings adjustment though

Honestly? I hate the thing. It's HUGE! I can't even close my mouth when it's in, I can't imagine I'm going to wear it often

Don't be disheartened! It's not wonderful but it's not that bad. I would like something that relieved it but I'll survive if nothing does. My ortho said that it often happens while teeth are moving because the bite gets off kilter a bit and you accidentally clench.

Good for you! I'm sure bread is going to be a battle to eat with braces!! lol I just got a little ticker today too! i think they're so cute!

About TMJ i have all the same symptoms as you do! Headaches constantly pressure being my eyes it has gotten pretty bad and i have brought it up to my dentist and he didnt really think anything of it, i really dont like the idea of having to wear a mouth guard to sleep

its gotten a lot better though as my stress levels have gone down which is good but i still have to take advil almost everyday because of it.

def mention to your ortho or dentist that youve been doing some research and they will recommend some sort of treatment for you im sure. try getting a temperpedic pillow, that has really helped me, it was getting so bad that i couldnt sleep good at all!

Oh and about gold braces, honestly just get the normal ones, people will see your braces no matter what so in my opinion there's no point in spending all the extra money to get gold.

haha I know what you mean! it is ALL that i am thinking about! to the point where I cannot sleep at night! i dont know if its cos of anxiety or im excited, worried etc! its a crazy journey and just like you i want them on NOW so i can stop obsessing about them! lol

I also clench my teeth during the day and also try my best not to. I also kinda suck my cheeks in if you get me? i dont know how or why but my cheeks actually feel tight sometimes, as well as my jaw. I am a highly strung person, i see osteos and myotherapist for my back and neck problems, it is a constant battle! and i often take nerofen tension headache everyday for it! so i really know what you mean about the headaches! ugh!

Your impressions will go fine on saturday, they put like putty stuff in a tray and put it in your mouth but mine just tasted like mint so it wasnt gross or anything

so it should be fine for you. Let me know how it all goes

ohhh ok i know the ones you mean, maybe i should get one, but i guess i will speak to the ortho first cos if i am getting the braces then i guess i cant wear it until they stop hurting! you are right. I was gonna say do you drool at night with it in? hahaha i find i drool a bit cos i am trying to sleep with my mouth open so that i dont clench, it is really frustrating!!! lol.

I will try not to be disheartened, you are right i guess i will survive if nothing can be done, it could just be the problem that is effecting my back and neck etc, BUT in saying that, i have had a bad back basically all my life and i sit at a desk during the day and that does not help! lol.

it is nice to know that other people experience the same thing i do, i feel for you that you do tho lol but its just reassuring that i am not the only one. I seriously get pressure behind my eyes that when i press my eyelids they are so sore and even my eyebrows!!! ugh! that is a good idea about trying a different pillow. i have a memory foam pillow at the moment but in saying that it was a cheap one so maybe once i have the braces on and have some money lol i will get myself a good one

thank you for your opinion on the gold braces, i am pretty sure i am gonna just go the metal ones anyway, it will save me $200 and everyone knows they are there so your right, doesnt really matter, and plus i wear silver jewellery so gold might look weird on me!

I thought I would just put a pic on just to show you the before shot. I have taken a few but I need to get better at doing it lol so I will just post one for now. I look at the pics I took on the side and HAD NO IDEA that my teeth actually stick out so much.. ugh its horrible

Ok so for the past few days I have had an ulcer on my cheek or something going on top left hand side of my mouth. I have a wisdom tooth there that has come through ages ago, and i feel like my teeth and cheeks and inside of my mouth are sore and i havent even had ANY WORK DONE YET lol. Maybe my mouth is going out in sympathy of all the pain that people are going through that I read on these message boards lol.

My gums at the back are really tender and sore too. WEIRD. (although i think i have had this before) I hope it goes away by next tuesday otherwise I am gonna be in a world of pain.

I think they said spacers are seporators lol either way I am pretty sure they are those blue ring things that go in between the teeth to move them apart so they can put molar bands on?

see, i told you I really have no idea lol. I really just need to see the ortho to get some idea what is going on!

I thought the SAME exact thing today! I must have bit my cheek way back where my wisdom tooth is and it was sorta hurting and I totally thought the sympathy pain thing! So funny!

Hey Rhi

I look forward to seeing your progress when you get your braces on! I went with all metals and have been having plenty of fun with colours

(check my story) People don't seem to be bothered @ all that I'm wearing them and the huge improvements in such a short time have given me much more confidence to not care!

Tell your ortho about the tmj stuff. I had clicking, stiffness and pain before braces but it has much improved since wearing braces and improving my bite.

I remember how nervous I was before getting my braces on! The ortho talks fast and you don't know what is going on!! But it all works out eventually and before you know it, 7 months have passed!!

Hope everything goes well @ your next appointment!
