Braces Journey from Chaotic Choppers - Australia

#1 Post by Chaotic Choppers »

Hi Fellow ArchWired members :)

I am 29 and getting much needed braces in July- traditional metal uppers and lowers. I think I'll grow in confidence as time goes on and venture into colours (only one at a time) but to start with I will be choosing silver. I remember as a teen wanting pink and purple ligs if I had braces... I plan to get them as my last lig change as a celebration and to make my 'inner teen' happy ;)

I have always had dramas with my teeth but unfortunately we couldn't afford braces as a child, along with the fact that an orthodontist said that "they will get straighter as I get older". Obviously that didn't happen, thanks 'mate' :x So to cut a long story short, it has taken until now to get the courage (and some money) to get the ball rolling!

So the problems I am hoping to correct with braces are:

Crowding upper and lower (including my right front tooth overlapping the left)
Bi-dental protrusion
Lip closing issues
Left jaw problems

Expected time 18-24 months

I will need 4 teeth extracted to correct the bi-dental protrusion and move my teeth back where they should be on the jaw. This makes sense to me considering that it is such a stretch to keep my mouth closed and my teeth look like they're all trying to jump out of my mouth!

I'm sure that everyone knows how excited but nervous I am about getting the braces on!! How much will it hurt? Is the treatment plan correct? Is my face going to fall off? etc. etc. but I'm quite excited to get them on after waiting soooo long! And I have a reasonable amount of faith in my ortho :?

I have been eating as much of my favourite foods as possible so that I won't be too grumpy when the time to starve arrives :) I have had to focus on enjoying not having braces this month so that I don't get too impatient waiting for my appointment! No doubt the time will arrive soon enough :)

Welcome CC.

Im sure we can all relate to the nervous/ excited feeling as well as the "last supper" thing where you eat all your favourite things that might not be recommended or possible with braces. But for you the time is longer so feast away.. lol

Looking forward to reading about all your progress over the months.

Wishing you speedy teeth movement and as little pain & discomfort as possible.

My estimated treatment times is 18-24months as well...I started treatment on the 1st June...

I started with metalic blue ligs now in in purple ligs....my next app is on the 27th thinking about getting a nice baby pink...

I have pics posted in my story, the link is in my signature.

Hey Nikki!

Nice to meet you! I checked out your photos and I'm loving the purple ligs! Baby pink sounds great too, can't wait to see them! I don't have much time at the moment but when I get the chance I'll read your story!! :D

Yay we will be a month and a bit out from each other - race you??

Thanks for the well wishes! I wish you the same and hope that you have gotten through the 'horrible first month' relatively well!

Talk again soon!

Sure lets race (i hope my teeth cooperate lolz)

My first month....Hmmm i am positive i have lost weight (haven't actually weight myself yet but i will)

I was really excited to get them on....but i was/am starving most of the time...

I usually just have liquids....

Finally I can chew properly now...With no huge amount of pain...I pray the pain doesnt come back on the 27th....

Thats all for now...Will post pics when i get new ligs :D

9 days to go until my braces go on! I'm hoping to post some before shots one day soon - bleh :)

I'm making the most of my last few days and have nearly gotten to the bottom of my fav crunchy/sweet foods list! I'm going to miss them so much! Lol!

My excitement is still high at the moment but the reality is starting to sink in!! Pain, extractions...HUNGER!

I wish everyone the best and will update again soon!

Thanks Kimmie :)

:jump: Hooray for you in a couple of days! I hope everything goes well for you too!

I'm not sure if I'm getting spacers?? Or really what's going to happen next week (besides getting braces-but which parts???)... I was so spaced out at my appointment (Not sure if I was too excited, dreaming or just plain scared) so I think I only caught half of what was said! I figure that it might be best not to know at this stage - lol

Anyway, keep me posted on how you go! :)

Its so nice to have people to talk to while we go through this journey. :D

:-1 It certainly is nice to be able to go through this together as brace buddies :) And everyone on here seems so nice!

I look forward to your story and photos! I'm waiting to see what I get in my "goodie bag" too before I go out spending :) (hopefully that will take my mind off the pain ;)). I've heard that some people get really cool things in their bag but I think mine will be fairly simple... but no matter what's in it I will be excited!

I don't have a waterpik  so you'll have to let me know if it is worth getting :)

2 more sleeps! :jump: and 8 for me! :)

I can not believe I only have 2 more days to go. I will make sure to let you know how the Waterpik is. I need to charge it up soon so it will be ready to go on Thursday. I think after my consult I will be more at ease on Thursday. I am hoping he doesn't say the word EXTRACTIONS to me!! Look out for my journey story sometime Wed night with pictures if I can figure out how to upload them. Lol. That will be the last time I see my teeth this way.

Yay! And by Thursday next week we will both be all suited up :)

You have chosen my fav colours too :D Only I don't want the purple to be too dark if I get it... Perhaps you have already listed them in the order you will choose?! I can't wait to see the colour you get :)

Love reading your story as it unfolds!

I want the light purple. Hopefully they will have that, but if not my second choice is the teal. My roommate from college has that color now and it is so beautiful so if I am able to get the purple this time I think the teal color will be my second choice!!
