Is it normal?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Is it normal?

Is it normal that when you get your braces off and your bite isn't perfect like your upper teeth and your lower teeth don't meet together perfectly? If you know what I mean. I'm kind of disappointed with the results that braces gave me :(

Depending on the severity of your case, I suppose that a slightly imperfect bite would be understandable. But, if your bite has shifted significantly since getting the braces off, then I would assume that your retainers need adjusting. Perhaps your orthodontist can use Hawley retainers to help adjust your bite.

Unfortunately, my bite is not slightly imperfect. Its like none of them really meet perfectly and sometimes i do wonder where I should bite on. To top it all, I think I kind of have a slight overbite which is about 3mm even after braces. BUMMER..

I really hope my hawley retainers could fix them and my next appointment for a retainer review is next month..

have any of these imperfections arisen since getting the braces off? Or were they there on the day the braces were removed?

They were already there on the day my braces were off.

Was your orthodontist concerned? Did s/he think that they simply could not improve it any further, say without surgery?

Nahh she doesn't look concerned at all. Its probably me just being paranoid but what I'm sure is that I have an imperfect bite. I will include a picture of my teeth later.

I know they look just fine here but I took these pics with flash.

Well, here are pics of my teeth without flash. You know what flashes can do to you. They make everything look so different. You can see I kind of have a "slight" overbite D:

Can hawley retainers fix it? I don't think soo. What do you think?

I'm no expert but your teeth look perfect to me! Kind of like when you go to the dentist and they have a model of teeth sitting on the table for you to look at. :)
If they feel strange when you bite down you should really get it cleared up with your Ortho as to whether it is a good bite or not and how can they be sure, before you go any further.
You need answers and reassurance.

oh thanks everyone for your answers. I will definitely check with my ortho! My next appointment for a retainer review is next month so yeah. Hope they can fix my bite! But will I need braces again? Or will they be able to fix it with a hawley retainer?
