Wow, your brackets look really clear! What sort are they? Congrats on getting braced, I'm sure you'll see movement soon. I need my teeth shifted to one side also - not sure how they're going to do this, but like Karen said it will probably be with elastics - will let you know when i find out!

Hi all!!

Well on last Thursday i went to my ortho to get my first adjustment (upper braces) and got lower braces.

My ortho went  when he saw the progress in the upper arch in just 1 month with just a preparation wire.. and i have to say the the wire went off in the 16 day.. yes is true :D i was like 6 days with no upper braces effect. he said that the only thing left to do in the uppers is the shifting to the right using elastics.

As you can see.. my lower arch is simply terrible.. i thing its going to need lot of work :) My ortho said that my teeth move very fast.. so i hope it wont take much time :)

Hi guys!

Well last Thursday i had my 4th adjustment, the ortho changed both wires (bottom one a little bit stronger than the old one). I can see some movement on my lower arch.. i think its getting rounder.

He also said that on the next month he will start shifting my upper teeth with elastics (FINALLY!) ;)

My underbite is getting worse.. i already known this from the beginning.. my ortho explained that aligning my bottom teeth would make by underbite bigger... :?

where are some pics :)

You'll forget about the braces and then it will be time for surgery. You're making some nice progress.
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix

After surgery.. 2Months 2 Weeks post op [PIC]

#24 Post by joao »

Hey guys! it's been such a long time (nearly 2 years) since i stopped updating my progress on this forum.. but it's better now then never, right ?

Well... im nearly at the end of my braces (long) journey.. it's been 2 years and 2 months with braces and the end is finally near :D

As planned.. i had upper/lower jaw surgery after (exactly) two years of braces. The surgery took almost 6 hours and the surgeon said that it went really well, he said that it was a difficulty surgery because alot of changes had to be made on both of my jaw bones.

The post-op was terrible... i had alot of pain.. liquid diet.. talking was terrible.. the swelling... the numbness...it was just awful

Right now its 2 months and 2 weeks after surgery and most of the swelling was gone... but i still feel some swelling around my nose.. upper lip area.. and on my top gum. The numbness its almost gone.. i just feel some spots on my lips and chin that are still numb but in terms of numbness, the recovery has been simply awesome.

Here are some photos after surgery and now:

Image
- Shrek mode! 4 days after surgery, still at the hospital... swelling was so muchhhh better then right after surgery...

Image
- Side View: 2 Months after surgery, still a bit swelling on upper lip area and around nose.

Now (2 months and 2 weeks)
Image
Sorry its b/w... :P

Image
- A look at my teeth (sorry for the bad photo quality.. i'll try to upload a better one later)

My dentist told me that i will just have to wear braces for 2/3 months more, just for fixing some smaller gaps on my teeth and correct my 2mm shifted midline, all this by wearing some elastics. But i'm really not worried about that because if a person can overcome a jaw surgery this last 2/3 months will be nothing.

My surgeon also told me that i my need a genio for pulling out a bit of my chin, he told me that i had the possibility to do it during surgery but he preferred to see the final result after 6 months post op and then take a decision.

So guys that's it... im really happy with the results.. and im really excited to see the final result, because the remaining swelling can take like 6 months to go out.. so it isn't over yet ;)

Just wanna wish best luck for all you. And be patient, and don't waste your time thinking on your braces.. live your life... and the months will pass like a rocket.

Cya!
