Hi everyone

thanks for the congrats,

these past 2 days have been interesting,

You havent lived until youve pinged an elastic out the bathroom door and down the stairs. I think im getting the hang of them now, theres definetly a technique.

The pain was quite intense the very next day and i couldnt really eat as everything felt like it was on the move.

But 2 days after the pain is reducing and there is minimal discomfort and im just left with the inpratical reality that is elastics.

My teeth so far have been moving quite quickly. Its a constant battle that i now face due to the more i wear the elastics the faster the teeth will move and the shorter period i will have to wear them.

On several occasions now Ive already sat down to eat and completely forgot about my elastics, its only when the fork doesnt fit into my mouth due to it not opening wide enough that i realise.

Ive already notice my teeth are biting together differently, my overbite seems to be reduced, i noticed it yesterday when i took my elastics off to eat, my front teeth clacked together for the first time, It felt weird, but ok, i guess the elastics pressure is doing something. I can but wait and see.

You are going to be finding pinged wayward elastics everywhere. Behind the toilet, in the couch, in the pencil cup at work.......

I'll probably still be finding them in crazy places months after debanding.

First-time poster to this forum...

I've had my braces on for 2 weeks, and am feeling absolutely fine (apart from being sick to death of scrambled eggs). But reading about Martin's experience with elastics makes me nervous about what's in store for me down the track....

Hi Martin I haven't posted on here for quite a while. I saw your new pics, congratulations on the new look of your teeth! They look fab. I'm still in the process of having the gap at either side closed up on my uppers. I am now going every 4 weeks instead of 6. I've no idea how long I have to go now as I don't want to ask but it might be till the end of the year. The one thing I am really frightened of is having the brackets removed and it may sound silly but I am worried that the glue can pull some ot the enamel off or worse that it may crack my teeth. [My ortho is not the most gentlest] I also have two metal bands around my molars which I am also scared to have removed incase they get damaged. Both these teeth have previously been filled and I know this can weaken the teeth. What are your thoughts on this. Please please reassure me as I am dreading it!

Wow Martin - your teeth are looking fantastic!

I'm new to your story. I haven't been on in a year or so, so trying to read new stories!

Keep up with the elastics. I was wearing mine wrong for weeks and my debanding date has been pushed back!!

Looking forward to reading more!

HI Everyone,

Gymjana

Hi welcome to the forum, firstly dont let me worry you, i can be quite frank about things on here, The elastics are fine, they dont really bother me anymre, jsut like when you get braces, at first everything is a chore, everything hurts or aches but in time that all fades to the point of unawareness. I always post on the day or day after my adjustments or when something new or interesting happens just to document my true feelings about them on that day. Its nice to be able to reflect on them later. Dont worry, trust me. Everything will be fine.

Deborah

Hiya, long time no post,

Hope your well, thanks for posting,
Yeah i have similar worries about bracket removal, having reacently had some of my brackets removed and relocated.
Im lead to beleive the ceremic bracket and metal bracket removal is slightly different.
The brackets themselfs are pulled off with a special tool, which kind of holds the tooth steady whilst applying force to the bracket, i had it done on my front incisor and it wasnt really very pleasent, but i can reasure you there was no damage to the teeth, and no pain. Its more stressful than anything.

I too have metal bands around my molars, which is probably harder to remove than the brackets. That does make me a little nervous. eek.

Im not looking forward to it, but at the same time i am looking forward to it as itll be the end of it all and i personally think that thought alone will get me through it lol, as it will you.

It happens to everyone, its part of the right of passage, ultimatly it feels worse to you in the chair than it actually is. Try and clear your mind of what you think is happening to your teeth. Go to your happy place :)

Marley

Hi marley, thanks for posting, yeah elastics are a pain but its part of the fun. I can nearly take them in and out without a mirror now (not quite) i have to be careful not to hook it over the back of the wire instead of the bracket hook as it feels horrible and the two are very close.

Thing is with my elastics, due to the gaps being so large from my extractions ill more than likely have to wear the elastics to the end of treatment :( which could be as long as a year. Oh well

all you can do is keep your chin up :)

big hugs \o/

I have a headache, jaw ache, tooth ache and ear ache from my new elastic configuration today, they were like yours but now they are both going in the same direction, looks weird! My results are still no where as good as yours and I've been braced ages longer! Not fair!

I hope elastics don't have calories in them, I've swallowed tonnes loads of them!

Hi Everyone,

Last night i had a catestrophic brace failure :(

my rear molar bracket, which is attached to both my elastics and powerchains broke and as soon as its off the tooth, the elastics were pulling it all over the place.

The first thing i noticed was a crunchieness in my mouth, then a funny taste, probed it with my tongue and found jagged edges and more funny tastes.
Ran up to the mirror and sure enough all the elastics and powerchains were now all slack and the bracket was free (still on the wire)

At first i thought it had pulled a chunk of my tooth off, but it was just the adhesive which had come off clean.

In the end i got the bracket off the wire (for fear of swallowing it) and cut the powerchain and ditched my elastics.

Im hoping to get in the orthos later. Get it all fixed up new like!!!

Hello everyone

been trying to get on for ages, and ages but the site as we all know has been suffering from some technical difficulties.

So...

After my brace had problems last i was seen almost immediately by the lovely people at Manor Orthodontics, who put humpty dumpty back together, I had another 2 weeks of inactivity before going back for my scheduled visits which seemed nothing more than to swap out all the usual bits and pieces.

Now i am approaching my 14th month in and im starting think about the end, the gaps in my teeth are indeed closing day by day, and sooner or later the gaps will be gone or shrunk to such a size it doesn’t really matter.

I feel that this next 6 months are going to be bitter sweet, like waiting for Christmas as a child or the last few days before your holiday/vacation.

We all know this time to be that annoying time that slows right down to a crawl, until it almost stops. This is made ever so slightly worse as this remaining treatment is very unnoticeable to the untrained eye, and it kind of appears nothing is happening, despite knowing full well that it is.

For almost 6 months ive been asked by family and friends who i show pictures to " how long do you have left" and when i tell them a year plus they are almost shocked, as the teeth appear straight.

I cant actually remember life without braces, nor can imagine life without them, its a strange feeling.

Ok well hopefully the next few months of powerchain and elastics will reduce these gaps.

Thanks Guys

Martin

Yeah, the wait can drag on, but we all know it's worth it in the end. Glad to hear that you recovered nicely from your catastrophic failure! I hate surprises in my mouth. Especially when I feel hard stuff rolling around that I know shouldn't be there. Ugh!

I hope I will be patient when the end of my treatment is near (which it is not, unfortunately). I know I need that time of seemingly no progress for my bones to grow and stabilize so my teeth stay put.

Glad to hear you're progressing nicely, and I hope the powerchains and elastics do their jobs quickly for you!

Hi Martin, Just read about your brace failure but glad you got it all sorted out ok. The gaps which were showing when I smiled are starting to close up now, but are making gaps at the back. I don't know if the orto has plans to move the back teeth forward but I'm going every four weeks now so that is good.
I am getting a bit fed up with it now as there is alot of metal work at the sides and its not easy to clean. I'm not sure how much longer I have to go but it will be great to be able to smile normally again. At the moment I find myself covering my mouth when I smile and was horrified when I saw some recent photos taken at a friends wedding and noticed all the metal shining brightly and how yelllow my teeth appear! Probably made worse as eveyone else will have had their teeth whitened which really seems to be the trend now!

I know exactly what you mean, with all the best cleaning in the world, a brace always seems to yellow your smile, i have metal lowers which shine in photos and cemeric uppers which just look yellow.

I assume youll have yours whitened at the end, most adults with braces will probably treat themselves.

I hear many orthos include a complentary cleaning and whitening at the end, i know your reading this down at Manor Orthodontics, so consider this my suggestion in the suggestion box!!

Its weird as over this last 2 years ive taken very few photos of myself out and about, simply because the motivation has gone. Im sure it will pick up again once my lovely new smile is unvieled

On another note

Ive just started up my own business, part time thing at the moment, going through the marketing phase to spread the word.

Its at home photography service, basically me and my complete a mobile photography studio will come to your house and do studio quality photography for a fraction of the price of the big studios.

I specialise in pure white and pure black backdrop photography amoungst other styles which are proving very popular at the moment for canvas printing.
