I thought I would share some pics from the side, as to keep track also of how my deepbite disappears (hopefuly).

Since I have those *damn* bite pads, my back teeth do not meet, and my deepbite seems less deep, but still you can see it. My top teeth used to completely cover the bottom, now with the bitepads and all you can see a little bit...

I still wonder how is that gonna be sorted out: only with braces? With elastics?

Deep Bite

#17 Post by sdawdy »

I also have a very deep bite and with the bite pads or ramps, you could barely see my bottom teeth. What my ortho did is she made a special wire that was put on my bottom teeth on top of the normal wire...yes two wires down there. There was something she did to "activate" it at each adjustment and what it did was push my bottom teeth down and now when i close my mouth you can see my bottom teeth!

Aww, I feel left out. I have no bite guards. :o( Are they terribly annoying? I was with my ortho student when a patient called and left him a message that none of his teeth were touching, why weren't they touching and he was like umm i dunno maybe it was the bite guards i put on his teeth this morning? Ha! I thought that was so funny. But then again I've never had bite guards...

I don't know why they're so fascinating, they're just so pretty and blue!

haha, lucky you! They might be pretty and blue, but they are soo annoying! I think that even if it does get better, you are never able to chew normally with these things on, and you remember you have them on every single time you eat! It's been almost four months, and I think I still have a long way to go with my "blue dudes".... :P

I have seen you have one of those palatal wires: how is that? is as uncomfortable as it seems? I was told that I might get one to hold my back molars in place if they start moving forward.

The thing about that wire thing is that it keeps your tongue from touching the roof of your mouth, so when I first got it on it felt like I was never going to be able to swallow again! (Two hours afterward, at a chinese buffet, I rediscovered how to eat. :) ) Lettuce is so easily wrapped around it that I have sworn off lettuce entirely, but other than that it's not that bad at all. The worst part, I think, is that I have a very obvious imprint of it on my tongue that feels like it will never go away. :( But yeah, it's been about four months and I hardly notice it anymore.

Double Wire

It was not that bad, dont get me wrong, it didnt feel good by any means. But if that is as bad as it gets....then its no big deal :D . Oh by the way i have a pretty high pain tolerance. There were many days where I did not want to even close my mouth. But chew and chew more and it gets better. The worst part about it was keeping everything clean :-} . I had a cleaning with my Dentist while this was in and I ended up feeling like an exibit as no one there has seen this either in years or at all....

That's funny that you ended up being an exhibit at your dentist! The double wire seems pretty uncommon, and I can imagine how difficult it might be to keep it clean!

I think we are able to manage a lot of strange things in our mouth!

Today I got my third adjustment. Nothing extremely exciting: I just got a square wire also on the top. I hadn't had my upper wire changed yet, so I expect some movement up there. I feel a lot of pressure right now, and some pain. I really don't feel like biting into anythng, so I'll stick to the soft food again :P Whatever, I hope it won't last for long!

Since my uppers have not moved a lot, I post you two progress pics from my lowers: the first one is the second day in braces (july) and the other is last week. you can tell how everything has moved a lot. I'm so happy I got braces! (and I am saying that right after a tightening!)

jxds,

Your lteeth have moved a lot. They are all aligned nicely now. You have been in braces since July?
My front lowers have not made tons of progress and they are ovelapping so I dont understand why I got a powerchain about 3 months ago if they need to separate.

Hope you can go back to normal eating soon. The first couple of days are always the worse.

How long will you be braced for?

Hey, thanks Flaka

Yeah, I've been braced since july, 2nd - four months already. I was told I would be braced 18 months so probably I won't be seeing the same amount of movement anymore...I guess that if he has to start working on my bite that will be less noticeable :P

Anyway, I will be relieved when my bite is set, my teeth meet each other and my bite pads are taken out! Right now it is kind of weird, a few days ago only my left side was touching, now only the front teeth... I guess it just moves a lot.

I think powerchains are not only for closing gaps, they can be used for more things so don't worry, I'm sure your teeth will move and you will end up with nice straight teeth!

By the way, a few hours after the adjustment, my teeth started to ache a lot... I finally took some ibuprofen and the pain somehow receded, now it is coming back... I hope tomorrow it will be back to normal! I think this adjustment, in terms of pain, is being worse than when I first got my braces on :P

Hi jxds, I just got caught up on your story. Your lower teeth have made amazing progress in such a short time! Lookin' very, very good!

I've had braces for over a year now, and there were times when I went for several months in a row with the same archwire on top. It's just part of the ortho's plan I guess. My lower teeth had the most work to be done, so I guess it's not too surprising that I didn't get a new upper archwire at each visit.

Congrats on your progress!

Thank you, catfish and grneydfairy!

About the Damons, since I haven't had any other kind of braces I cannot compare but I am happy since they are actually moving my teeth quite quickly, I haven't had a lot of pain, no extractions, no palatal appliances so far...

Before starting I went to another ortho who wanted to remove two premolars on top and two lower teeth, place a nance button on the palate and a lingual arch, plus braces for two/two and a half years. With the Damon, no extractions, no appliances and 18 months estimate instead of 30. The deal was obvious, though at the time I preferred ceramic braces and the Damons are all metal. Now I really don't care at all, so yes, I'm happy.

With this last adjustment I've had quite a lot of pain, though, but in five days it almost disappeared so not a big deal.
