Powerchains with self-ligating braces?

#1 Post by jenny101101 »

Hi everyone,

I have Damon braces and I was just wondering if, at any point in treatment, do they use powerchains? Since I don't get to "experience" having colour with ligs, I'm curious to know if I'll get PC's at some point so I can have colour!! :D

BTW, I've been looking at all the colours in the "lig colours" thread and I must say, the pinks are my favorite!! :pinkbraces:
Keep smilin'! :)

I also have damons. At my adjustment before last (if that makes sense) I got a power chain on top to close a gap between my incisors. All they did was put it onto the brackets before inserting the arch wire, mine was clear and nobody noticed it.

Hi Cactus,

Thanks for the reply :D . Hopefully I will get them "down the road", too. I'd like to have one with colour but who knows...not all orthos carry coloured ones, I guess.
Keep smilin'! :)

Hi Meryaten: Thanks for the reply :D . Yes, I know not everyone needs them so that's why I said

I really didn't know if they even used them on self-ligating so that's why I was asking. I see your posts around the boards a lot and I must say you are extremely helpful!! Keep up the great work  .

Dutch: Yes, you go for that purple!! I love purple, too. Hey, I figured if we have to live with braces for a few years, why not have some fun, right?
Keep smilin'! :)

You can get them with Damons, but I was told I would probably not be a candidate for them --- however I DID GET MY FIRST CHAIN (it is clear and plastic) at my last adjustment. It is practically invisible, but it is a "chain" to torque a tooth that the ortho said was not moving like he wanted.

I was so curious abou this issue because I have self ligating bracket, on my last adjusment I thought I was going to get a color ligs to close gaps instead they powechain with wires. Threaded wires between the teeth. I hope this is all they're going to use and I never have to go through ligs.

I've just this morning had a power chain added to my my self-ligating braces. My braces are clear and so is the elastic, you can hardly see it at all. The chain is to close a gap due to an extraction and so is asymmetrical on my bottom teeth, I think it would look a bit weird and lop-sided if it was coloured.

The problem is I now can't have a curry for 6 weeks until my next appt. unless I want to have a bright yellow power chain.

I don't normally feel any new senstaions after an adjustment until the nest day at the soonest, or maybe even 2 or 3 days, now I'm feeling the pressure after 3 hours!

I have Damons and have had several color powerchains. They rock! I had 3 extractions prior to treatment, and this is key to closing those gaps. I will say, they can be prettly painful the first day, but you know they are working! I'd assume if you have had extractions you will get them, but I'm no ortho! Good luck, BTW BLUE is my fav!

Hi! You can still get colored ligs with damon brackets. I have damons with silver ligs. Also, they do use powerchains with damons depending on how much work you need done. I will have a powerchain in a few weeks! :?
4 Wisdom teeth extracted
4 First bicuspids extracted
1 Trans-palatal arch
4 springs
Silver ligatures
Damon brackets
And a partidge in a pear tree!

I've had power chains a couple times throughout my treatment. I have them right now because I mentioned that 2 of my teeth are moving back to their original spots and creating a gap. They closed the original gap and now they are holding them in place. I have clear ones, so you can't tell unless you get up close.
