Longest Adjustment Ever?

#1 Post by Lucifina »

So what has been your longest adjustment experience?
I went in for my 17th adjustment the other day and every adjustment so far has been a quick 10 min job, in and out! Not this time. I had my mom with me and I told her it would be real quick and we would be on our way. Not so much! It took a hour!!!
It entailed a lot of “oopsâ€

Hi Luci

My adjustments are usually about 20 minutes, but my longest was when I had the bone screw put in followed by bonding of my top arch and positioning of distalizing loops. I think I was in the chair about 90 minutes that day. I'd been lying flat so long that I felt dizzy when I got up!

haaaa that happened to me when i told my sister if she could just take me because it would be really quick anyway... well i got called back quickly but when i got back there it took 10 or 15 min for the ortho to see me then he was with me for 5 min. after that i had a new assistant putting my ligs and powerchains back on soo after she took 5 min of the bottom ligs she started on the top powerchain and she got halfway through and then popped the very front top one off and then i had to way 5 more min for the ortho to come back over and then he had to fix it then she wanted to be extra careful after that and took another 5 min to finish the other half.... gahhhh my sister came back to the back of the office twice so i guess they could tell they were taking a long time.....

Just wondering- I read one of the articles on here that said your ortho will let you brush your teeth during an adjustment. I haven't had an adjustment yet (only had them on for 2 weeks!) and was wondering if your orthos let you do that.

My longest one was the time when the wire attached to my impacted canine came off. You never, ever want to hear the word "oops" while you're in the chair! She then spent a very long time trying to bend what was left of it into a loop that she could use, and attached it with elastic... and the next day it came off completely and I had to go back. (And then ended up having to have two oral surgeries to try to reattach it.)

I was always able to brush while my wires were off. The brushing mattered less to me than the ability to floss in a way that wasn't so clumsy. I always feel like I'm not doing as well as I could when I try to floss normally, although my dentist said I was doing fine.

The longest one was in June. I had my arch wires removed, teeth cleaned, new wires put on with ligatures. That took about 2 hours. The appt this morning took 1.5 hours. This was my second longest one. Usually i'm in and out with in 20 min or so.

It all seems to depend on the intended treatment. None of mine have been less than 45 minutes. Of course checking out and adjusting the bite plate slows it down. My next appointment will involve at least five brackets being replaced and "other things". I'm a bit concerned about the other things as I've said I'll do whatever is required without question to get the right result. I'm scheduled for THREE hours.

WHAT HAVE I DONE?

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.

Thanks for praying for me and thinking happy thoughts.

My brackets took a bit more than an hour per arch. This adjustment will involve removal of brackets (wouldn't you know it none have popped off since mid July), cleaning the glue and putting new brackets on. What else will this adjustment bring? I expect either a bite plate adjustment or a new bite plate and possibly elastics. Beyond that, I'm don't want to guess now will I be totally surprised if it involved more.

Lucifina,
Yes my ortho is also my normal dentist so it works out great. They cleaned my teeth with only the brackets on my teeth. They removed the ligs and wires. On the back of my teeth they polished with that paste mess and on the front the prophyjet, i believe that is how its spelled, its the baking soda and water which really whitened my teeth compared to what they were.

ghostmyimag3, Well that is convenient! All in one.
I have a dentist, ortho and OS so I am all over the place.

As for the long adjustments, my ortho always lets me know ahead of time what is going on so I know how long it will take. He will tell me if I am getting brackets worked on or something so he will set me a regular appt to get work done and that is in a separate area of his office than the adjustment area.
A normal adjustment is done is this one section of his office and “usuallyâ€

My routine adjustments are always set up for half an hour. On one of those "routine" appts I was there for an hour and a half hour. That appt was about the same lenght of time as when I had my braces put on.
Got my braces off 9/20/07 after 19 months and 3 weeks. WOOOOOOHOOOOO!!
