blue teeth!? yikes!!

#1 Post by Jeneva »

I got the rest of my braces (lowers) on last Thursday - the 16th. Since then i've begun to notice that the lower molars that have the bands on look very blue to me. I showed my cousin, the dental hygienist - who said she's never seen that and it may be from the bands being to tight. Anyone else?? I'm a little nervous about this...

Jeneva, my teeth are very translucent and they have sort of taking on the color of the metal kind of like a reflection. My front teeth are so translucent that they look different when I put my tongue up against them. I think the metal going all the way around the teeth makes the reflection worse than just the brackets on the front. My teeth aren't that big either, so there isn't that much tooth surface around the brackets so I think that makes the bluish color a little more apparant.

I don't know and am not a professional but I don't think putting the bands on too tight will turn them blue....kind of like 'strangling' them???

i don't know if this helps but when they removed my molar bands there was this blue stuff on my tooth that wasn't scraped off. i only noticed it when i went home and brushed my teeth and i just couldn't get it off. i don't know if it was cement or what, but it was only on the teeth that had molar bands.

you should probably ask your orthodontist. the blueness on my tooth looked like blue plastic or something. i don't know if that helps! :?

Don't worry. Your ortho probaby uses blue cement. Mine does too and they told me that it would cause my teeth to be blue for a while. I went to the dentist for a cleaning and they were able to get some of it off., They said the rest would eventually wear off on its own.
