My 12 Month Journey

#1 Post by KatieMiller »

Hey there! :-1 I am Katie, and 29 with new braces! I had them as a child when I was 7 for 2 years. Long story short; not wearing my retainer, and my wisdom teeth coming in, made them crooked again :-+

Here is before, May 1st, 2016

And last wednesday, May 4th, 2016

Today I just had my first adjustment, at 6 weeks. I left there an hour ago and already feel a lot of pressure. They changed my wire, and also ligs. On the bottom she didn't just do the regular around the bracket ones, she twisted them so they go through the bracket itself. Any idea why? Also the Ortho told the assistant that at my next appt in 6 weeks I will be doing 20 squared? What does that even mean? We also extended my wire all the way back today too. Let's see how quickly I progress now!

Thanks for following my story!

Starting out. Don't mind all my fillings. I took horrible care of my teeth as a child

Update; 1 day post 1st adjustment! I can honestly say that there isn't any pain or discomfort, just a little more pressure, if that makes sense. Makes me a little nervous though... you know the saying "No Pain, No Gain"???! Hopefully this isn't the case!

Hi Katie, In my experience, pain has never been an indication of progress and throughout my treatment I had very little pain and at best, a little soreness now and again particularly after moving up to a stiffer wire. Some people report a lot of pain during their treatment and everyone is different, it doesn't mean their teeth are moving any quicker. It's best to take plenty of photos and judge progress by what you see and not what you feel. Good luck.

Here are my initial visit photos, compared to Monday's photos. Again please disregard my previous lack of care for my teeth resulting in fillings as a child. I am much more diligent now as an Adult :) I do believe I see change! 6 weeks down, 46 to go!

Thank you for your reply! I have a pretty high pain threshold I think ( I am a mom to 3 after all :) ) so I would probably say that's why they aren't bothering me much. Don't get me wrong though, they hurt like heck during my first 5 days!
