Hi there,

So, finaly I have time to properly introduce myself.

I’ve been lurking on this forum since February – that’s about the time that I have decided to get my braces! But as I was having job+country change I had to wait until this month.

So, I am officially braced since a week and a day!

As a teen I had removable braces – the out come was not 100% but it was better? I hated those things (had bottom and top) - plastic… yack

10 years ago my mom tried to convince me of having fix braces but at the age 18 I was not that convinced + 6 extraction (one impacted second premolar, 4 wisdom still inside me!!) that was just too much+ the metal thing was horrible! As I am from Poland this place was the only one at that time that was having fix braces so no second opinion possible.

Now I am going to be 28 (very soon) and the fix braces got so popular among adults – I am not actually sure if popular is a good word for this but it is normal to have braces- there are much more people with them. So, though I do not leave in Poland (since already 7 years!) I have decided to go ahead with it- I am traveling back to Poland for the ortho treatment – I feel more confident having some one of my own kind ;-)

As far it goes I had one extraction!! On the first Saturday of June (what a relive not 6 like before) Apparently it is good that I have wisdom teeth as I do use them very well!
Got those spacers (7 in total) for first day they were a bit irritating then … I forgot about them!!
Then after 9 days on 13th I go the braces top and bottom –Sapphine one- so clear one, I am really happy with them!! Until now no complains, I used wax for a bit, after one day I was able to eat more or less normally.
I just had some problems speaking English and French….not Polish (the last one I barely use;-) I found that really funny, shows a different in languages!)

It’s been a week now and I get impatience ! I see something on the top, but nothing on the bottom and there are much worst! Oh well I guess I have to wait a bit more

I will try to put some pictures, as I know this is the most interesting part :D

So I am testing the pictures
this is before extraction:

I think I am retarded – they started to hurt! Ups! After two weeks! ??

Oh well I think at the back of mine mind this small little thing about braces was still an option …. And two teeth give me a wired sound ?

So I had my first adjustment... it was well a bit painful during and for the first 2 days, but no it’s ok. One of the brackets was off while my ortho was changing the ligatures. Then she changed its position. I got different ligatures, before there were pearl one, now I think they are clear, I think I like the one before, even after 5 weeks there where not really yucky.
I think I already see some changes…I was surprisedJ

So here is the picture from last Monday (17th) the first adjustment ;-)

Well I am bored- still one week to my summer HOLIDAYS:-) so I started wondering about each phases of ‘my’ treatment. I looked on the webpage (there was a link to it some time ago, I am not sure who found it). So first is getting the arch, then leveling teeth, then closing gaps and then getting the molars correct.
So, I wonder where I am… and what’s installed for me- I guess I will have plenty of questions for my ortho ….
I have crowding – to me small one;-) – and a crossbite. As fare as I remember my molars are also not correctly positions. From the web I found that an average movement of teeth is 1,5 mm a month, an excellent is 3 mm….so I’m not lucky they’ve moved only 2 mm in the past 2 months :( So I am hopping that by xmas my arch will be ok….then I guess I will get the elastics? Am I right? That’s to correct your bite? I wonder if there is any possibility to move my teeth faster? Using something? Oh I forgot- to get the arch my are trying to move the teeth to the gap where the extraction was made… my midline is off so the movement is towards the good site. I already see that one tooth is worst then it was…but I guess that’s normal. Well that’s not guess it’s from your posts:-)
Ok I know I am at the beginning of treatment, but well if it’s going so slowly now ……well the only good thing that I am really pleased the TMJ is gone (it wasn’t that bad before….) :-)

thank's for any clues what's ahead of me

Not bad!

Don't worry, things start to go slower after that initial "jump start." From what my ortho says everytime I go, he sees something more than I do. The better my teeth look, the fewer times they have to change the wire, which is nice and painless. You're teeth are looking great!

Thanks :D

I think my ortho will be flooded with question
Only 5 days to holidays and 14 days to next adjustment  I cannot wait.

though I would like to see the 'jump start' Havn't see it yet.....

So, finally back from holidays ;-)

Holidays was a great fun!!! A week of do-nothing!! Just swimming:-) I love it!

And I had adjustment!! Gosh, that was not fun at all! For the first time I had really a lot of pain!! The pain killer was not really working.
My wire was changed from 14 to 18… I think this is way I got so much pain. I hesitated with ligatures…still clear one.
I have so many questions to the ortho..but I am so ashamed that I cannot start speaking… I hoped that my ortho will do something, but well I think I have to fight my fears on my own….
From the small thing that my ortho said I know that the tooth which was in the roof of my moth is much better, but still needs some work- at the moment this is the only tooth that touches the bottom… and that’s not fun, I have problems speaking..and eating.
Ok, I am a bit low with braces… I know it will go away, but on top of this my molars hurts…and that’s not fun as well.
I was hoping to have adjustment every 4 weeks but I have it every 5 weeks… I feel like the 1,5 year is really far away from me…

I took some pictures….

I will post more, when my ‘braces low’ will go up:-)

Asking the ortho

When you say you are embarrassed about not speaking, do you mean it hurts to speak or you are just scared to ask your ortho questions. Either way, you need to find a way to ask your ortho everything you are worried or wondering about. I was embarrassed to ask my ortho anything, but I has to swallow my pride. hee-hee! I asked the assistant my concerns and what she couldn't answer, she asked the ortho. In fact, she relayed more info than I thought she would. Your teeth look great though! Keep us updated. :D

Thanks Girls!!

Well I was too lazy to look up in the dictionary for the spelling ;-) I mean shy….. To be honest I had it written down…. Oh, I think I really need to do something with it. I feel a bit better, but …. Why on earth I started to feel like I have them for the first week, at least at work….I do not feel comfortable….and I think by now all my coworkers know about braces…I guess it is my first ‘low with braces’
On top of this during the appointment I am so nervous! Like a small baby! Gosh I need to do something with it!

I want to try colors…but do not feel like I should ( I work in kid of ‘professional’ thing) I have to think about it.

I hope that in 4 weeks time I will try better to talk to my ortho, I know that only one small push from her and I will speak up, I was hoping she will do it this time. The other option is to call her and ask for a talk during next appointment, though I will need to have a reason.

I am still thinking about the size of the wire… I must say it work…Ouch …really well my fronts bottoms are nearly straight!

On the bright side- I asked at work for Friday off! And I will go to Stockholm for a weekend! I’ve never been to Sweden!

Thanks for being here:-) to those that are reading

Caryca,
Good luck with talking to your ortho. I know it can be pretty scary. Just try and maybe only ask your most important question the first time just so they don't feel overwhelmed. I'm curious what are you going to do in STockholm? I'm very Swedish and have always wanted to go there! HAve Fun!

Stockholm was really nice! I have visited some museums, and see some of the beautiful nature!! Really worth going there.

But just before going there, I had something to eat…. And the ** food got between tooth and the arch+extra wire which is there to pull the tooth to the extraction gap…and the extra wire got out of the molar band:( I put it back…and I am so angry on my self!!! I call the ortho and she said to take it off as it will not work:( My ortho is 1,5h fly away…so I have to wait 3 weeks… I’m so ******* I guess I should already add extra 5 weeks to the treatment :(
On the talking site …I was rubbish again…maybe in 3 weeks time when we will see each other I will finally say something logical? Btw I am not sure if she understood what actually have happened?

On the bright site:) I remember saying … ‘I cannot believe the peoples bottoms are straighten out in just 3 months!’ so here is a pict of day one and now… which is according to weeks counting 3 month mark (actually it will be next week, if looking on the calendar, but well after the ‘accident’ I do not think they will move more :( )

So first day:

Ok…. I think this month is not the best one with my braces……. Yesterday I went with some friends to a pub….I really only had beer! And one bracket pop off… is still there, but I not sure what to do with it. Take it out? Again there is something wrong and my ortho is back in her office on Monday ! that sucks, any way I will probably not call as I am getting to stress. I have 10 days to my next appointment.
I was reading on the forum how people stop feeling them! And I really feel them….. the whole month, I wish there are off….but that will not happen for the next 15 months!

Oh and I forgot to add…since a week after the adjustment I have problems with chewing, that’s 3 weeks now…I hope that in 10 days something will change so I can touch my bottoms with tops…..

Sorry I need to vent:(
O if I will not freak out I might get color ligatures (only on the bottom…. I am not that wiled ;-)

Och I cannot wait! Only 7 days to my next adjustment.

I must admit that the last 3 weeks were not the best one while being in braces. I hope the next months will be much better.
I have quite a lot of concerns, but this time I will talk to my ortho I have to!
I started (again) to make a list on paper, but this time I have to put it out of my pocket.
I am still thinking about colours I do not think I will have them on tops, but maybe on bottoms??? Who knows.

Any way just a quick post before a party with my friends :-)
