Metal mouth starting at 9:00am tomorrow :(

#1 Post by ty24 »

I have an overbite/crossbite and finally got nagged enough by my girlfriend to get braces. Not so sure about this at all because I am 19 so I know I am going to stand out a lot. All the impressions have been made and my appointment is at 9:00am tomorrow to get them put on. I know it is going to hurt, but I guess it will be worth it. Tonight is my last night for a long time I guess to eat normal??? I am trying to have a good attitude about it!:)

My last meal was Mexican because I'm a chips & salsa fiend!

Good luck with your braces. Not gonna lie, it's kinda tough at first, and a pain in the butt, but the end results will be sooo worth it. You'll have beautiful and healthier teeth!

Mexican sound good! I guess anything crunchy won't be on the menu for a while? Ugh! :)

After a few days of getting them on, you should be able to eat basically as you did before. Just avoid chewy, sticky, crunchy foods and you should be fine. You'll still be able to eat tacos, just not in hard shells. :)

Also, don't worry about being 19 with braces. I'm 22, and I've seen a few people at my college with braces on. Sometimes it can be annoying when people think you're younger than you are, but for the most part no one will make comments and you really won't stick out as much as you think.

Good luck tomorrow! You'll be glad you did this. :)

Thanks! I know it will be an adjustment! My girlfriend is being really supportive though and staying with me through the weekend. Of course, she got her braces off back in January, so she will know my pain I am sure!

I still don't know what my last meal will be. What did you end up with? Good luck tomorrow! How long is your treatment estimate?

There are so many people at the colleges around here so I am sure you wont be too noticed for the braces :)

You need one more post and then you can post pictures and links :) Try going to "User Control Panel" > "Edit Profile" > "Edit Signature" after you have 9 posts. You can put your ticker there!

I'm glad you have a supportive girlfriend. My boyfriend had braces as a kid and even though he doesn't remember much, he's been very supportive through all the pain and frustration I've had.

Pain is so individual, though. Some people here had NO pain from their braces!!! Ugh!! lol I'm more than a little jealous. But just take it as it comes. Good luck! We can't wait to see pictures!!!

I went with the mexican......chicken chimi....fajita nachos!!!

I didn't get into the long story, but I had to already have four teeth extracted. My ortho say at least 30 months if everything goes ok, but it could be 36 months if my teeth are "stubborn"...whatever that means! I know I will have a power chain for at least a year and bumpers on my back molars for a while too. I don't see how my mouth is going to fit all of that!

Welcome dude, congrats on taking the plunge...you're 19 that's still a decent age for braces, I'm 26 now and a guy as well...honestly everyone around me has been supportive so I hope you find it the same way. My girlfriend had braces a few years ago too and she works in the dental field so it's been not so bad support wise.

Good luck.

You're getting braces in 20 minutes! Good luck!!!

Don't worry about being 19 with braces...you are probably one of the younger people on these boards!

Do prepare for people to think you're much younger, though. I'm 28 and people keep thinking I'm 18-21 years old or so.

Thanks guys! Well, I am officiall braced! It took longer than it was supposed to because he ended up putting in a palatial expander too. So I am glad I am typing this instead of trying to speak it! My mouth is so freaking full of metal now I feel like I can barely close it and the aching that started in the chair has gotten much more intense. So I knew this was going to be a crappy day anyway. I am about to try to lay down for a while.
