My New Journey in Life

#1 Post by gracesongbird »

Hi I am Grace, A mother of 1 kid, 35 years of age (though I may not look like one, I look 10 years younger haha).
I have been dreaming to have braces since my early teenage years. But because my parents cannot augment our needs, braces are impossible.
So I ended up having insecurities all throughout my life. I cannot really do my best because of these things. Although I have managed to make this flaws an asset (by always smiling instead of not putting my lips closed). It turned out a bit well. But still, that insecurity is killing me.
Now that I have these enough finances, I am so glad that my husband has been very supportive with my decisions of getting a brace.
I have a Malloccusion II (overbite) protuding case. My orthodontist decides to extract 7 teeth (yeah you heard it right). :)
I have been very eager to have one, so here am I , on my 4th day on braces. It hurts, yes, but still tolerable. I am just having trouble adjusting on foods. So someone might suggest best soft diets.
It's been an honor to be a part of this forum.
Goodluck to us and to me :)
Teehee! :D

Hi! Welcome to the board and braces :) I'll be 35 in a few months too and have just started a couple of months back.

Sorry to read they're hurting. The initial phase is the worst by far. Some good soft foods are things like soft polenta or semolina, custard, yoghurt, fruit smoothies, scrambled eggs, soup (once you can chew a little bit adding some nice soft bread to soak in it is good) mashed potatoes/sweet potato/pumpkin.

Once you can chew a bit more mince type meals (shepherds pie, bolognase etc) can be added. Veggie burgers you make yourself can be lovely and soft (can of beans, some breadcrumbs, herbs and spices or sub lentils for beans) and are a good way to keep up with nutrition.

Hope they're feeling a bit better soon!

Awww : ) Good luck to you!

I'm kind of in the same position! I wanted braces all my teen years to fix how narrow my smile is (pretty straight, but still narrow), and a slight overjet. I get mine on in May! I can definitely relate to the insecurities! :-1
