Kimmie's Road To A Beautiful Smile (PICS)

#1 Post by NICURN85 »

Hello All,

My official journey will start on tomorrow with my spacers and brackets!! I am nervous, but excited at the same time. I am 26 years old (will be 27 soon) and hopefully I will have that great wonderful smile I have always wanted before my 30th birthday. Ihave needed braces since high school, but my parents were not able to afford them so I am like what other time than now to get them if I have insurance of my own that will be paying half of the total cost. I will have my official before braces consult in the morning before they put on the brackets and spacers. I am so happy that I have found this board and can document my journey here starting tomorrow and be able to interact with others that is going through the same thing as me. I will start off today by posting a set of my pic of my teeth for how I will remember them 2-2.5 years from now!! Well here is a HORRAAAYY to starting a new beginning in the ORTHO WORLD!! :jump:

Hello Everyone,

Today officially started my journey with braces. I could hardley sleep last night as I was to excited. My appointment was at 10 this morning, but I am always an early bird (I arrive for work 1 hour early) so I was there around 930. Before the brackets went on and the spacers when in the doctor talked to me about what he was going to do and my options. I currently have two missing molars on my top arch which are right across from eachother so for my bite and everything to fit perfect at the end he gave me some choices. The FIRST was to do NOTHING now and wait to see how treatment goes to see if everything will line up perfect like he wants (with headgear) which he said in about 90 percent of cases they will since it is my molars and he will be closing up the gaps. The SECOND option was if I was ok will a fuller lip profile (which I am not so this one is out of my options) he could move my upper arch forward and things would line up that way and my 3rd option was with EXTRATIONS of two teeth from my lower arch where I will have the same amount of teeth on my lower and upper arch and that would guarntee everything would like up corretly as opposed to giving me a 90% outcome and having more teeth on the lower arch as opposed to the upper arch. So, as of now I will be waiting to see what happens as the treatment goes along. Now to the fun and exciting part.

After the little talk with the ortho one of his assistants set up everything to begin the progress. Before everything started they put on NETFLIX for me and asked what I wanted to see while they did everything. (It was a great method to take your mind off of everything) I chose to watch The Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. ( I am still a big kid inside) The first thing Miss D did was to clean my teeth and then then have me go rinse really well. After that came the retractions to keep my mouth open and the suction to keep it dry. Then she put some more stuff on (I forgot the name of it), but I now it tasted HORRIBLE!! :yuck: Then after that she gave my teeth a "little shower". Next she painted my teeth with the glue and called the ortho in to put on the brackets (at this point my lips are so dry and I forgot my chapstick!!). It was also during this point they gave me the cool shades to protect my eyes from the light to dry the glue. 8) After putting all the brackets on she had me to rinse because she was like my mouth was probably tasting like metal and she was right about that. Last but not least came the dreaded SPACERS!!! So, I have 8 in. On 3 out of the 8 the ortho had to come in to put them in because my teeth were so tight. She actually popped one of the spacers trying to get it in. (OUCH) They were like we do not have to worry about your spacers coming out before next Thurs.

At the moment I am not in any pain. Maybe it is because I took an 800mg Ibprofen before leaving home, but she asked me if I felt throbbing and I was like no so maybe that will come later on today. Right now my mouth feels really full. The brackets are rubbing so I will probably have some sort of sore in the morning. I just love the goodie bag they gave me. It is literally a nice bag you can take around (I will post pics later) that came with a T-Shirt, 2 things of wax, a tooth brush, thread flossers, floss, tooth paste, and the little proxy brushes and coupons for more proxy brushes!! It also came with a little pouch in which I can carry to work to keep things in and they gave me my favorite color PURPLE for the pouch. As of now, I have not looked at myself in the mirror to see how I look. I will do that tonight after I come back home from teach a CPR class. I will also post pics later on tonight so you guys can see everything. For now that is all and you can check back later for pics and maybe me ranting about pain from these spacers!! LOL

Congrats girlie!!! You're finally a brace face
Told you it would be a cake walk and I'm glad you've officially begun your journey.
It's pretty awesome that your doc's going to wait to see how your teeth progress before deciding to extract or use headgear (I hope you're able to avoid that :?)

Congrats again!

Thanks everyone!! It has officially been 10 hours and I am still in no pain. (I don't know if that's a good or bad thing). Maybe my pain is the headache I have. I was thinking maybe the pressure from the spacers are causing a headache. The only pain med I took was around 830 this morning before I went in. I am thinking maybe the pain from the spacers will really kick in tomorrow. At the moment my mouth feels really full and I took a nap and woke up to drooling. Now the hard part so far is eating. I tried some mashed potatoes, but eating makes my mouth feels ever fuller so I am guessing eating will take getting use to. I went in to work for about 2 hours to teach a class and I tried to hide them, but people could tell my lips looked full and was asking what was wrong with me so I showed them my braces and they were like OMG now you look really young, but they are really cute. I still have not found the courage to look at myself in the mirror yet so those pics I promised will be posted tomorrow. I know I will have the courage by then because I have to look at myself tonight to brush my teeth!! I also forgot to mention the sentence they gave me today changed to 24 months even though I am not getting my hopes up.

Hello to all my Brace Family,

Today is day two with my spacers and brackets and so far no pain. I am living right now off of baby food because I am scared to chew anything with these spacers. I do not want them coming out and having to go through having them put back in!! Well, here are the pics I promised.

I have one question: I know I will be wearing elastics at a point in my treatment and as of now I have no hooks on my brackets, so will they add hooks when that time comes??

Thanks CC! I am not quite starving. I tried eating some baked fish today along with a baked potato. It went ok. I think the spacers are taking away from my chewing. I will be so happy when they come out next Thursday!!! I wonder are my teeth already starting to space out bc on my right side my bite is differnt. I dont know if its the spacers themselves or actually the space being made for the bands to fit!!! Yours will look beautiful to in 4 days!!!

Three days now :) and 4 til you get your spacers out :)

Fish and potato sounds much better than baby food! I certainly hope I don 't need spacers - I haven't been told about any extra appointments so maybe not? They sound awful!

It must be exciting to feel a bit of movement going on! Hopefully that means your teeth will move nice and fast :)

CC!!!

I had my fish and it got stuck where the spacers are and it feels so icky back there now because I can not floss where the spacers are because it will dislodge them so until the come out I am sticking to soup!! I hope you do not have to have them either. Will you find out on Wed? I mean I have not had any of the pain people have been talking about (I got lucky), but eating is such a pain with them in since you really can not chew. I think I would much rather be flossin in between wires if that means I will be able to chew!!! I think I have figured out a solution to help with the first color I get since there are 3 in mind. I am going to write them down and have my sister pull it out of a hat and what she pulls will be the color I get!! Are you getting excited since your day is almost near?
