Well that was stressful! Please read the following with a pinch of salt. I had had terrible dental fears so today was pretty awful for me. I bet it wouldn't be half as bad for anyone normal. Plus I had to take some anti anxiety meds so I always feel a bit glum as they wear off.

Getting the brackets off was bad. It here wasn't much pain except a couple of sensitive teeth but the crunching and shattering of the ceramic brackets was hell. When the first ceramic came off I freaked so much I started crying and honestly thought I wouldn't be able to get the brackets off! The assistant was great and really helped me through. Then they had to sand the glue off my teeth which was a horrible noise but not painful and I calmed down slightly listening to relaxing music on my ipod.

Then I had to go to a dentist I had never met for a checkup and clean. The ortho assistant drove me which was so kind and amazing!!!! And the appointment was what I was freaking out about most but was the high point of the day. She was amazing!!! Really calm and kind and the clean took 15 minutes since the brackets were gone. Easy!!! And no cavities!!! Thank God!

Then it was back to the ortho to fit the retainers. They actually ran out of time to do the permanents so I have to go back in a week for them but they fitted temporary clear plastic retainers. They were so hard to get in and out I had another freak out and almost cried again! Figured I would have to keep them in and not eat for a week! But they trimmed them up and they are a little easier. One tooth is still a little sore from braces so I'll need ibruprofen for a while!

Then on the way home a crazy person yelled at me at the bus stop because a storm was coming. Random! I'll probably be much more upbeat tomorrow so will post pics then. My teeth look really big now but I won't say more till I'm in a better mood!

Had some lunch and feeling much better. With all the dental appoinments I went from 7am to 3pm without eating and it did a number on my blood sugar level and resulted in yet another angsty post...sorry about that!

So here are my teeth in their de-braced glory with Essix retainer. (The retainer is still a b**** to put in but I'm getting the knack now)

And here is the whole braces journey! (Well not quite - I go back next week for bonded retainers and a premanent removable retainer)

Well despite the anxiety of getting them removed I'd say you've ended up with a beautiful result. There is such a difference in the before and after photos. I'm very happy for you! Enjoy your new smile! And smile, smile, smile!!

Thanks everyone! That means so much. I have always hated my smile so its taking a while to adjust but I'm feeling more thrilled with the result! I still can't quite believe it though...I still have to force myself to look at my teeth in the mirror!

The retainers are still quite tight so its a battle to get them on and off but i'm getting the knack. I'm also loving the ease of flossing again. i've flossed 3 times in the last 24 hours and it takes about a minute each time! Keeping my teeth perfect now!

Starfish!! Wow is all I can say! Your teeth are beautiful! I would have to keep myself AWAY from the mirror if my teeth looked like yours! You should be proud and show those babies off! Congrats!
