I finally figured out how to get good pix with my new camera. Here are starter pix with current ones next to them:

This is 10 months progress

I see I have a tiny bit of advancement on the lower left, and one of my upper centrals is a shade ahead of the other but my ortho said he'll put a bend in my SS wire next time to fix that.

I just don't trust these buggers to not run rampant around my mouth once the fence is off!!

Oh, BTW, you can also see how thick the Opals are from this angle for those who have been asking me...

Really nice progress pics. I'm getting Damon braces on the 23rd and I can only hope that my teeth respond to treatment as quickly as yours seem to be doing.

Fantastic Progress!

#53 Post by karamon »

Hi Jennie,

This is Karin D. I had spoken to you about the Opals in Dec/Jan. Well today (Feb 23rd) I got braced with the Opals and the Damons. I am posting my story soon after I go through all the pics. The Opals were little devils to open and close the gates. One broke and one popped off. They are bigger but they are sooooo smooth against the inside of your cheeks compared to the Damons I think.

Anyway will be posting soon. Your teeth are really looking great!!

Hey Karen! :-1

I remember talking to you about my Opals a little bit ago. I was wondering what your progress was just the other day.

SO glad you got them and I agree, they are big but AMAZINGLY smooth. If you read my story, 3 of mine popped off. They NEVER have trouble getting them open now. My ortho thought maybe the indirect bonding procedure glued some of them shut and that's why they broke/popped off when they were being pried open. Don't worry, it's quite easy after that first time.(I don't even feel them snap open)

Can't wait to see your pictures.

Can't wait to see your pictures.
Jennie,
I posted my story with pics yesterday in Our Braces Story under Karin's story so go check it out. Surprisingly enough, I'm not feeling much pain. Hardly any at all. I can't eat because my bite is off, but my teeth are feeling much better than they did 20 years ago with the other braces. Could I attribute it to the Damons. How did you feel?

I'll be sure to keep you posted of my progress. Your teeth are looking great. I hope to have your progress in 10 months.

Take care and thanks for the info on Opals!

My teeth hurt plenty when I got mine on. Took about a month to feel better...probably just me.

When he switched to a square wire it was really painful, but for only 3 days. Then he put in a heavier square wire about a month ago and I hardly felt that at all...I was eating normal foods the next day.

I get my finishing wires in one more month and he says those'll hurt, but not as much as that first square one did.

I'm sure you'll see fabulous progress in as few as 3 months! That's when I saw most of mine. It is still so amazing!

I read your story and saw your pix; your teeth will move so quickly you won't believe it!! These braces don't let anything stand in their way, including time!

...it's nice to have someone else with Opals and Damons on here since I'll be getting mine off this summer, you will carry the torch! Image

Hi Jennielee,

Well it's been a little over a week since I got my braces. Still can't bite down all the way so still no steaks or italian bread. But I am eating my first slice of pizza cut into around 150 pieces. Just doesn't taste the same. Last night I went out for some desert and couldn't eat the apple strudel just the ice cream. Don't know if I've lost weight because scale broke but I must have. Still absolutely no pain but I do feel a cool sensation of tightening especially after drinking hot tea.

Your teeth look amazing and I am really looking forward to the day when my top and bottom arches fill out like yours have. I really have noticed a difference just in a few days. My teeth that were tipping backwards have totally moved forwards again and my bottom teeth that were crowded and rotated (similar to yours) are slowly moving to where they should be.

I can't wait for my first adjustment! Only 9 more weeks -- I wish it were sooner. I've seen a few other adults in braces since I got mine on and I make sure to say hi to them. It's like a secret club. Although I must admit I'm still not used to talking and after i've been talking a while I get weary of talking and rearranging my lips. But your pics are a big inspiration!

Gotta go finish my pizza. Take care and I'll be in touch!

Karamom,

Your bite sounds like mine. WAY back in August, I realized that I could FINALLY bite down completely. Somewhere between the bonding (April) and that day I learned how to eat again. Now sometimes I wonder how it felt in the beginning.

Initially I lost about 5 pounds but I gained it all back easily when I re-introduced steak, doritos, croutons...EVERYTHING :yikes:

Have you had any of your brackets pop off?

I look forward to following your progress. Isn't the internet great? I know it's a double edged sword, but this part is really fantastic.

THANKS!!!

I get my final wire on Tuesday.

Some days I am really thrilled with my smile IN braces. That's actually most days in the week. I like the "silver" in my mouth...it goes with the silver jewelry I wear ever day...

Once in a while (not often) I am totally finished with them and want them GONE.

Don't get me wrong, I love what my teeth look like regardless of what's on them!

I will ask on Tuesday what their estimation for my removal date is. They must be able to tell by then since my assistant told me I was almost finished 8 weeks ago. I just want a target to hit, ya know??
