Jenn Swoosh Saga

#1 Post by Jenn S »

Hello friends!

I added the website link to my original braces story. Decided the subject name was a poor choice, so my story will now be known as the Jenn Swoosh Saga.
I had my first cleaning since getting braced in December, yesterday. Fortunately for me- and totally sheer luck, My Ortho and Dentist are in the same building.
A bit of a production (and a half day out of the office!) Go to Ortho, remove wires, go to Dentist, clean, back to Ortho, wires on.
But it was all worth it!
I am very, very excited (and a little surprised) to report my Dentist was very pleased with my oral health!
I have had pocket reductions in almost all my teeth. This is so huge! I dreaded my visits because I usually was informed my numbers were going up. I am just so happy.
My Dentist is crediting the waterpik, although now that I am braced I realize just how much I snacked during the day and did not immediately go brush. Oh and those little tooth picks, and all the swooshing. and the hummingbird, and giving up caramels and bit 'o honeys! So a combination of better behavior I guess.
Oh, but what I would give for a bit 'o honey right now!
I have had a splint on two of my top front teeth for many years (multiple chips on my front tooth, have weakened so a splint was added to support.) I am a bit of a klutz.
While cleaning they noticed that the split had broken from the force of the braces moving my teeth!! I was told to have my Ortho file it down. So after cleaning, headed back to my Ortho and he said he was planning to remove that splint anyway because I would no longer need it!! Woo Hoo! Better news! My tongue had rested on that splint for 10 years! It won't know what to do with itself after I get it removed! He even said- wow your mouth looks great, you are taking really good care of of your oral hygiene.
And just when it couldn't get any better, I was given "oops, way too much curry last month" stain free plastics and my braces look a whole lot better.
Promise to take photos this weekend. It's not fair that I have been lurking at all of your photos for months now.

Hey Jenn,
Congrats on all the wonderful news you got from your dentist! That pocket reduction is pretty major. :D And yay for nice, clean ligs!
I can't wait to see your progress photos!

Thanks Brika, I nearly skipped out of the dental office!
Wow Brika, I just checked out your story. We were braced the same week! I can't believe how much movement you have had- that is truly amazing. I'll get two extractions in April so hopefully will see the same motion.
That must be so exciting to see such immediate improvements!

The same week? How neat is that?! :D Thank you so much for the encouraging words! I bet the extractions helped a lot by creating room, so I'm sure yours will result in a lot of quick movement too!

Hopefully. I have not had much in the way of movement. I am not discouraged, just a little surprised. Until I get my two lower back teeth removed, they have left my 4 lower front teeth “un wiredâ€

Hi Neighbor! I can see why you're excited about the extractions. It sounds like progress on your lower teeth is pretty much on hold until that step is completed. Good luck with it!

I really like your avatar, BTW. Too cute!

So my first flight since getting braced and I started to wonder- will my braces set off the metal detector at the airport?
They did not, thankfully, but they had to run my waterpik through the screening device 3 times. The TSA employee had never seen one before.
 She thought I was a dentist. I was also escorted to the "need more information as you are a possible threat" area where I had to explain what it was in detail...at one point it looked like they might have to take it apart!

Too funny! Hard to believe someone has never heard of a waterpik before. They aren't THAT unusual. Glad you eventually made it through.

I was worried about getting an MRI with braces. I was afraid that big magnet would yank all my teeth out! Amazingly, it did absolutely nothing. (Whew!)

I know. I thought that was odd too... But I guess in less you have a need for one, you might not know. :?

Ken, I have been on this site since last November, and read a gazzillion postings, and I just can't believe how many responses you have shared.
You are just one of the kindest people. You are so supportive of everyone and so quick to offer encouragement.
You deserve an arched wire support group award! :D

Jenn Swoosh Saga **** 2nd adjustment & Pic****

#11 Post by Jenn S »

Today I turned 48! I had an adjustment on Monday. My front two teeth are not very happy with me. I may have been a tad too whiny at work these past few days...This is a picture of my birthday gift from my team. Hilarious!

It's filled with picks, oragel, brushes, and pain relivers.

Hey, thanks Ken!
Yes, they are a creative bunch! And they have been really supportive of their boss being out on so many appotintments these past few months :)
Sorry to hear about your surgery being postponed. You have a great attitude though and it is good to know you do not have other issues!

Hmmm. Dilemma. My insurance now may cover the jaw surgery (non cosmetic) my Orthodontist recommended in the start of my treatment.
At 9K it was just not a priority for me, especially in the current economy.
Now possibly covered, I am curious, have any of you gone through with the surgery, in mid ortho treatment?
