At least you have a brace day! I think I could handle the waiting a little bit better if I had an end in sight! There are still so many things we need to figure out before we can set a date (what to do with the canine, when to take out my bottom wisdom teeth, do i need jaw surgery and then, on my end, figuring out financing). Having all these variables just floating up in the air is driving me batty! I think I will throw a party when we actually fix a date, let alone when I actually get them on!
Maybe this is some kind of lesson in patience. If that is the case, I think I am failing.

Fluffy you are too funny! I do understand. If we have patience it will all work out!
I had my wisdom teeth out YEARS ago. They were all impacted! Every last one of them!
I am so jealous that you have a chin! I know that sounds strange but in profile I really don't have a chin....just a head on a neck. lol
You are not failing the test! We are here to hear you vent! You will have a brace day! and We will throw an "online" party as much as we can!

Oh Miss Smiley. Smiley, Smiley, Smiley. You have NO idea!
I'll stand in front of the mirror, baring my teeth while I try to imagine what I will look like when it is all over and done with. I have considered Photoshopping some braces onto a picture of my teeth just so I'll have an idea what to expect. This is worse than waiting for Santa, the Easter bunny and your birthday all combined!

PROLOGUE CONTINUED: I HAVE A BRACE DATE!
I had my fancy 3D x-rays a little over two weeks ago and I had my phone appointment with the treatment coordinator this morning. She went over what was needed:
I will have Damon brackets (Damon 3s on the top front six teeth). I will NOT need spacers (hurrah!). At this point, I will not need to have my bottom wisdom teeth removed but we're going to play that by ear. My impacted canine is still a bit of a question mark; the orthodontist is going to put the top braces on first and then send me to an oral surgeon to expose the tooth. We're going to try to bring it down but it's one of those cases where we won't know what will happen until we try. After the top teeth have moved some, then we will put on the lower braces. Treatment time is estimated at 18 months (if we can get the canine down) to 24 months (if it needs to be extracted).
Now, I ran into a bit of a financial roadblock this week. My cat became very, very sick on Sunday and I had to rush him to the emergency animal hospital. His urethra was blocked with kidney stones (this is a very dangerous situation and can result in death in about 48 hours). He needed to have surgery. Very expensive surgery. I couldn't afford this surgery and was looking at giving my cat up to a no-kill shelter just so he could get treatment and live, even if it wasn't going to be with me anymore. Luckily, the vet talked to the hospital director and they agreed to cap my costs at the amount I was already approved for on their credit plan. It is still very expensive but now I don't have to give up my cat! Yay!
This, of course, meant that I would have to put off braces until next year as there was no way I could come up with the $2000-$3000 down payment the ortho required. I explained this to them and they actually worked it out with me that instead of putting down a BIG payment and then going monthly, I can start with monthly and then put a BIG payment down at the end when the year rolls over and I can do flex spending through work.
YAY!
May 8th is when I go in for another set of molds and then May 22nd is when I get my top braces on!
I. CANNOT. WAIT.

It is SO awesome how your ortho worked with you financially! That's great! I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Hope all is well! I have 2 kitties. I will be getting damon's on April 23rd. I've been waiting since Feb. and I am so anxious! I've been trying to slow myself down a little though, because I will have the braces on for 24+ months. Seems like a long time. Anyway, good luck with your journey!

Thanks! The kitty is feeling better even though he still has a way to go. I'm supposed to keep him from jumping for 10 - 14 days. How do you keep a cat from jumping?!
I am very, very, very excited about my brace date. I was pretty sure I was going to have to wait until next year so I am happy that my orthodontist was willing to work with me. As soon as they brace my top arch, they are immediately going to send me to an oral surgeon to expose my canine -- so I still need to figure out how much that will cost and if I can swing it. I'm -hoping- that my insurance will at least cover some of that. But if I can afford that and can come up with the $500 initial payment for the braces sooner than May, the treatment coordinator said I could move up my brace date to some time in April.
Now THAT would be cool.

HURRAH!
I thought I was going to owe a little bit on my taxes but it turns out that I had a few deductions that I didn't realize I qualified for. SO! I am getting money back which means that I have been able to move up my brace date.
I'm now going in on May 25th for my molds and then, on May 8th, I get my braces.
I am nearly bursting out of my skin with excitement!
ps: The kitty is continuing to improve!

PROLOGUE CONTINUED: THE LAST STRETCH UNTIL BRACE DAY
I just got back from the orthodontist. They took another set of molds that my ortho will use to figure out the placement of my brackets. Spoke with my doctor for a bit. She let me know that my impacted canine isn't in a very good position and she doesn't know if we will be able to bring it down; however, she won't know until after we've exposed the tooth and have worked on it for a few months. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be successful -- COME ON, TOOTH! YOU CAN DO IT!
They gave me pills to take before my brace day appointment that will reduce the amount of saliva in my mouth. I also asked the assistant for a list of off-limits foods.
Her: Oh, don't worry! We'll give you all that information on your brace day!
Me: I'd like the list now so I know what to stuff my face with for the next two weeks!
Much laughing ensued.
So now I am trying not to be toooo giddy about brace day (13 days! 13 DAYS!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!) and preparing to eat as many nuts, gummi bears, granola bars, chips, popcorn and corn on the cob as I can before May 8th.
BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!

Fluffy- Congrats to you on overcoming your phobia and becoming so involved and excited for your treatment! M b-day isn't until May 21, I'm dying for it to be here too! At the office I work at (an oral surgeon) we do a lot of canine exposures (and other teeth) and a lot of them are sucessful! I hope yours is too! Can't wait to follow your progress!

Hi fluffy,
Congratulations on your decision and follow through with getting braced. You'll be 2 weeks ahead of me so I'll be watching your story. I am also getting my upper arch braced. Please be sure to take pics so you can keep track of your progress!
I completely understand your excitement and lack of patience while waiting. Don't worry, it's not long now
Yay, class of May 2008!
