Hi guys im Chris.

Im from Melbourne, Australia. I've had braces now for about 3 months or so. I've gone through all the pain of having them put on. from not being able to eat enough food and getting real sick and all the rest of it. I had/have severse bottom crowding. Probably the worst i've ever seen around. I'll post some photos of my teeth 3 weeks after braces and now after three months. Oh i'm missing 5 teeth aswell. I have no wisdom teeth (purely genetic) and i'm missing the top left lateral insiscor which can make this abit difficult.

Here is one after 3 weeks

Here is one after 10 weeks!

Hopefully all the photos work good :)
I'll be keeping this updated, ill take a photos tomorrow of my new open coil spring that was put on a few days ago, i havn't taken any new shots as of yet. But i definitely will!

Hey Lea!

Yeah they did make me feel sick to my stomach. I think mostly because i'm use to a high carb and protein diet, and when the braces went on. I was just having protein shakes and soups. Which in turn made me feel so sick - i didn't have any solid foods for about 3 days. My stomach was always grumbling i threw up a few times too. Apparently when i told the orthodontist he said "not many people experience what you experienced". And i probably should have stopped going to the gym during this stage

I lost about 2kg's in the first week. And i was able to eat solid foods properly after about 3 weeks. It was such a weird kind of pain. I don't wish it upon anybody else :)

But braces were definitely the best choice i've ever made, and im only 21 so i'm still a baby :) And in about 5 months i'll have perfectly straight teeth. So best of luck with it all Lea.

Hi Chris

Great that you're doing well now. Your teeth are definitely on the move. Shame that you couldn't eat for so long, that does seem unusual. I also had (yea - no longer have now) a lower incisor that was behind the others. With the help of a spring enough space was created to bring it forward and now it is alongside the others.

You mention that you'll have perfectly straight teeth in 5 months, this seems a remarkably short time span. How long did your ortho say your treatment will be?

Best wishes with the treatment, your teeth are well on their way to looking great.

Regards
Joney

bebeger: hello :), yeah 2kg is alot! but for some reason my body can change its weight quite quickly. As at once stage i weighed 78kg(at the time when i wanted to gain alot of weight), then i decided to cut down and went to 70 in less than a month. So i'm funny like that. But yeah i agree i couldn't believe the change in 10 weeks either~! so excited!!

And also, try and eat some solid foods when you get them on, like soft potatoes and stuff. My little sister has them too - she was eating everything normally when she first got them on! i was so jealous! even crunchy toast the first day they put the braces on for her!!

joney: That was the worst thing about braces, not eating! i love eating too much :) how long exactly did it take you for your lateral incisor to move forward? My orthodonist said 3-4 months to create enough room and possibly a month to bring it forward, i think i was just being optimistic about the 5 months :) :) who wouldn't. I've had teeth like this since god.. as far back as when i was 5, now i'm 21 - i'm just so thankful to have them being corrected.

I just took some photos this morning, as i had an adjustment last monday (6 days ago) here's the bottom shot.

Bottom after 12 weeks ( with my open coil :) )

i really can't wait for enough room to open up to fit that evil tooth in!

keep you guys updated regularly! i wish i found this forum earlier :)

Hi Chris

In answer to your question about my incisor. I was braced on Nov 10 and a spring was put on to create space for the incisor. At an emergency appointment on Feb 14 the ortho took the spring off and put a wire to bring the tooth forward then two weeks later another wire was placed that was smaller. So I suppose the spring was working for 3 months then in this last month it has crept forward. So all in all about 4 months which I find suprising as I am 42 so that incisor has been in that position for a very long time. Also it didn't hurt coming forward which was an added bonus. It was slightly tender for the first day or so but otherwise it slid into place really easilly.

I think I was a bit confused that your complete treatment would only be 5 months but if you were talking about your incisor then, yes, I would imagine it should be in place within that timescale.

Hey Joney

Ah yeah, sounds about the right time scale. when my other tooth was back and it feel into place, it didn't really hurt either. even though it was rubbing against the other teeth alot. But it went forward so quickly! i'm glad they can move from that position so fast, but once it gets in position, the movements are minimal :)

But im glad i got sapphire braces, nobody can really notice them on me. after i've had them for like 3 months people still go to me, 'do you have braces chris?' lol.

And now i eat anything i want. and probably alot of stuff i shouldn't be eating. like chocolates and soft drinks. however, i've steered clear of apples :) crunch crunch, ouch ouch hehe

By the way, i never had to have spacer on my teeth either! which is so great. my orthodontist has another way to attach braces, where instead of using the spacers to create enough space around your third molars, he just glues on the bracket, and said he's never had any troubles with this method and it's far better for the patients :) lucky me

Wow, Chris, what great pictures and amazing movement so far. You must be so pleased.

I will let someone else answer the web journal question, because i have just managed to finally get pictures posted to Photobucket, and I also started a blog and right now don't even remeber where it is because I never went back to it and put anything on it!

Good wishes for a great brace experience. All here are very supportive and knowledgeable. look forward to more of your progress pictures and reports.
