Jeneva's Journey

Well, i figured since my adventure in orthodontia is underway, it would be a good idea to start some sort of a journal!

I got my top spacers on on Friday, June 16th. I will admit, they are not as bad as i thought they'd be - but my teeth do hurt if i bite something too hard and my teeth have that weird fake feeling when i close them together - i suppose that's due to the bit of rubber hanging down - i have really tight spaces.
I will post some pics asap - but it seems that photobucket is down right now.

I get braced on the top a week from today. As for the bottom - where there is visible work to be done, i have no idea - my ortho tells me that he needs to open my bite a bit first...

ok - photobucket back up

so tomorrow is the big day. This time tomorrow i will be sitting in the chair getting some lovely metal adornments to me teeth! I am getting a little excited when i think of straighteneing that little crooked spot. I received my dentakit and comfort covers yesterday. Props to the dentakit website peeps for their fast shipping. They even sent me some extra goodies and a few magnets.

ok - it's been about 6 hours since i have been braced (pics, of course, to come) and i have to say that this is definietly an experience like no other. To start, i enjoyed that brief period between getting the spacers out and getting the bands fitted. If i could have eaten an ear of corn right there, i would have. but now that the whole top process os over, i am trying my best to adjust. My teeth don't line up brcause of the bands. The inside of my mouth is mildly ripped up - because of the bands. And eating lunch was a wild adventure. While i have no desire to eat, my stomach thinks otherwise and i find myself sniffing around for something. I have settled on drinking water each time. Well, at least my kidneys are happy. I am thankful that i got my trusty dentakit so quickly. I already broke it out after my lunch and i am even more thankful for the comfort covers. I snapped them on for a little while earlier. Have been carrying them with me just in case. I also quickly learned about wax. The ends aren't really sharp or poking me, but my cheek salavary gland has gotten hung up a few times on the anchor on the bands... those little buggers!

those braclets can really beat up your cheeks for the first week or two, and then there after for no explicable reason. don't worry you'll get used to everything very quickly, and will be able to eat anything you want in no time. just take it slowly at first.
good luck and welcome to the club

Hi Jeneva!

Glad to hear the braces are on. I also found the worst thing about my braces were the molar bands- my togue got a bit cut up as it kept rubbing against one. Just wack some wax on the offending area and go for the warm salt water rinses. I did that as soon as I was having trouble on day one and have not looked back. I haven't needed wax or the salt water since that day. Hopefully your mouth will recover quickly like mine!

Best of luck with your first week, in no time at all the braces will feel normal. And now the real movement begins, which is very exciting!

so the last few days were a little bit rough. I am surprised how tough the inside of my mouth has gotten. I bought the comfort covers and loved  them! The pressure on my teeth has been a bit more than i thought it would be, but i have been managing ok as long as i don't attempt to eat anything too hard. I still owe you guys some pics...
Thanks all for your kind words, encouragement and advice!

Glad to hear all has gone well, Jeneva! The pressure has been kind of inconsistent for me...when I wake up I feel it, but as the day going on, it diminishes. I look forward to seeing your pics :D
