Hi Beckyboo
I have enjoyed reading about your journey, I think we are about a week apart in getting braced. I laughed about your waterpik encounter as I have had a similar situation. I don't clean my mirror too often either. I would really need to do it after every brushing. I also have a diastema and it is almost closed. They put a wire tie on to close it on day one. Last week they switched that out for a power chain during the first adjustment.
Good luck the rest of the way!

CORN DEBACLE 2013!
So my husband and I had a slight argument over corn tonight!
He ordered some corn on the cob for our groceries and didn’t realize that I couldn’t eat it. So when it was done cooking, I walked into the kitchen and he had cut the kernels off of two of the ears and was reaching for the third piece. I asked him “Why are you cutting the corn off of ALL of them?” And his argument was that he didn’t realize I couldn’t eat the corn (on the cob) and what’s the point of eating them on the cob if both of us can’t.
That didn’t even make sense to me! Just eat yours on the cob and I’ll eat the cut up corn! I kept asking him “What’s the point of ordering the corn on the cob then!? We should have just eaten canned corn or something!” Because here in Alaska, corn on the cob is ridiculously expensive compared to the super fresh and cheap corn I grew up with in Michigan. So why spend that much if we are just going to cut it off? I mean, obviously I have to eat it that way but he doesn’t! The whole point is to enjoy the corn ON the cob! So I took the bowl away before he could cut the corn off that third cob so he could eat it on the cob.
I guess maybe he was feeling sympathetic to me for having to eat it cut up? Anyhow, it ended up being really tasty and I told him later that if we lived where the corn was way cheaper, then we should just eat it cut off the cob (instead of canned or something) because it was really good.
On a side note, I have never waterpiked so much stuff out of my teeth as I did tonight after eating that corn! HOLY COW! It just kept coming and coming.
Also, my crazy tooth cramping pain has stopped doing it's thing. They are a bit sore but atleast they don't feel like they are seizing up anymore.

Hi Beckyboo, I was just wondering how you are getting on with your Turbo's? I'm getting mine next week and can't imagine what it would be like. Great to hear about your progress!

Re: Beckyboo in Braces
Are they called Turbos? I have no idea. I'm doing good with my bite thingies (that's what I call them! ha) Don't really pay much attention to them anymore. Except that last week I started to feel like my upper arch is sticking out more and it seems like the end of one of my bite things almost barely touches my bottom teeth now. Like when I smile, it seems like the back of one of them is even with my bottom teeth. Make sense? That's not really a problem or anything... but I guess if my overjet gets bigger, then they won't really do me any good anymore... but I guess at that point, my upper teeth will be over my bottom braces anyhow so it won't matter.
Don't worry too much about them. They are pretty minor.

Thank you, I was wondering how they would affect eating and talking and have searched the forums only to read endless accounts of 'terrible turbo's' so feel much more confident now.beckyboo0205 wrote:Are they called Turbos? They definately don't affect my eating. But at first, it seemed they made it harder to eat because my teeth hurt more. I'm not sure if they affect my talking... maybe... I have a little lisp sorta but I don't know if it's from the bite things or just the braces.
Re: Beckyboo in Braces
Some foods are worth all the clean up work afterwards.
I'm 20 months into treatment and I'm still trying to figure out whether or not some foods are worth it.

Re: Beckyboo in Braces
I really wasn't expecting the corn to be all stuck up in there! lol I've eaten canned corn and don't think it was so bad. Maybe cause it was fresh and it was chewier... Anyhow, flour tortillas, I think, are one of those foods where I'm not sure they are worth the clean up. 1), I have a harder time biting into them... atleast on the end where it's folded. And 2), they get stuck in a 4 tooth long section right in the front and then when you try to get it off, they gum up! Ughh... wraps are tasty but too much work!
Re: Beckyboo in Braces
LOL sorry to laugh but I had to laugh at your corn debacal lol.
I can understand where you are coming from, whats the point of buying corn on the cob if you are not going to eat it on the cob, but then I can see that your husband probably didn't want you to miss out so he thought he won't eat it on the cob cos you can't. I can see both sides
but hope you enjoyed it and it was worth picking it all out lol
I had canned corn in my tuna (salad i guess you could call it lol) I mixed up canned corn, canned tuna, shredded lettuce, lemon juice with some natural yoghurt and spring onion, SO YUM! you could use sour cream instead of natural yogurt, but as it was all kinda combined I could eat the lettuce and corn with no worries (even tho it pretty much still gets swallowed whole lol)

Re: Beckyboo in Braces
Happy 2 month anniversary to me!
14-16 more months to go! Or is it 16-19........
I don't know anymore. I just got this paper in the mail today from my ortho's office just sorta stating what they saw in my mouth and what issues would be fixed, blah blah. It was pretty basic... but it said my treatment time was 18-21 months. My original estimate was 16-18 months. BLURG! I mean, I guess the 16-18 months was at the consultation but how is it changing now? 16-18 doesn't sound bad... 18-21 sounds looooong! I guess maybe I can ask at my adjustment in 2 days.

Re: Beckyboo in Braces
YAY New wires! I have a rectangle one on the bottom and still a lighter round one on the top but I think it's thicker than it was. I feel the tightness but just sitting around waiting for the pain to kick in I guess. I made sure to ask my questions this time. Last time, I forgot to ask until I was just about to walk out the door.
So my ortho said my treatment will be around 18 months... but they have to give a range so let's hope we can stick to the lower side of the range! Also, when he took my wires out, he told me I could go floss. That was cool, despite my question about it from last time. Didn't make sense. But this time, my husband and I were doing errands around town and I had brushed my teeth after breakfast a few hours earlier but didn't go back to our room to brush again. So I just did a super quick brush in the bathroom of the office. Anyhow, it felt weird to normally floss my teeth! Good weird but weird to do it normally again. Weird to see my teeth again without the wire.
They connected my very last bracket now, so I expect to feel some molar pain this month because a few of them are angled a bit. It definately feels weird to have the wire ALL the way back. More food gets caught now it seems... atleast it's in the back but I can't pick it out with my tongue as well anymore! ha Definately glad again that no teeth were hurting because it's almost violent when they open my bracket doors! ha I asked how soon until I'll get elastics and he said they usually don't start those until about 6 months in so I guess I have 4 more to go... -ish.
Guess that's it... things are going pretty good!

Ughh oh hey pain, I've been expecting you!
Pretty much my whole bottom arch hurts. Some on my top too but not as many. It's gonna be minimal chewing for the next few days.
